I was going through my plane blades today looking for a 2 3/8 wide oval trademark Sargent blade, I was unsuccessful in that endeavor; but came across this Japanese plane blade. Not positive but my recollection is that I got this about 30 years ago in a large chest of Japanese tools from guy, then in his 60's, who was selling his late father's tools. The seller was a WWII vet who fought with the Nisei regiment, I think his parents immigrated no later than the mid 20's so I think this blade probably is at least that old. I sold the other tools I got in that lot very quickly.
It is 2 1/2 inches wide, a little over 4 inches long and well over 1/4 inch thick at the top. Anyone here read Japanese?
