I have an old motor sitting in the corner of the shop that came from the estate of a woodworker. I would like to know what tool, machine or equipment this motor would have been originally used in. The original data plate is present but hard to read. What I can make out is that its a type RY, 1/3 HP, 115 or 230V at 5.4 or 2.7A and frame size is either 35 or 36, cant quite make it out. The part that is odd is that it is variable speed between with either 800RPM or 2400RPM. There is an allen headed cap style screw that you undo and move to change the RPM. I also know that it is repulsion start induction run but otherwise no amount of searching has turned up one exactly like it. What would this thing have been used in? I have seen many similar ones searching but none that run at 800/2400 RPMs.
