I recently purchased this unit off of craigslist to help organize my random odds 'n ends. It looked old but in great shape. After a quick internet search all I can find is that:
1). Lyon still sells basically the exact same thing today
2). Looks like it was made after 1940
Any thoughts?

Fin: I can tell you Lyon makes some of the best cabinets on the planet. is that all one piece? i have many that look like that in 3 row sections, but they are not a Lyon. can you tell me how heavy that unit is?

have fun filling it up.

also it looks like you are a new member so welcome to the group.

It is one piece. With all the bins in it was very heavy but I can't give a good estimate on weight.

I originally wanted to give it a paint job but the "vintage" look is growing on me. I'm very excited to have added this to my collection.

The bins come out quite easily which is nice because this is going to take me a while to organize and relabel all the bins.

Very nice. I would love to have that in my shop to replace my modern small parts storage. The patina is really nice.

Another nice thing about the fact the drawers come out easily is you can just pull the whole drawer and take to the bench if you need to dig through small items to find the one you are looking for.

Several manufacturers still offer those: Tennsco, Hallowell, Edsal, and of course, Lyon.

Wow! I've seen beat up versions of the three-row type sell for as much as $250 so I can't imagine what that beast you found would go for. Whatever it cost, your small parts issues are now officially "handled"!

I want to repaint 2 of the 3 drawer high bins this coming summer. The pull tabs on my drawers is like the ones in this assembly. Some of my tabs have been smashed flat. does anyone have an idea how to raise and reform the tabs?

Nobody has said it because they don't know if he got a awesome deal.

It'd be great to have but I'd have to make room for something like that.

Dad retired from AT&T. The building he was in was built in early 60s. The place was full of Lyon stuff. The supply room had rows of similar cabinets. I was always amazed at the supply room. If I'd won the powerball is had a similar supply room for my shop.

I vote to keep it the way it is. Enjoy. Keep the old paint. I didn't notice any rust. If there were I'd touch it up.
