Found this older Mac tools chest. Was wondering if anyone here could give me some info on it?

70's- early 80's MB910 top, MB920 bottom. 33" wide x 18" deep boxes. Heavy boxes, friction slides, some dividers. I just can't stand twin drawer pulls. Has been repainted.

Depends on in person condition, local market. The half (outside only) repaint doesn't help. What are they asking?

Don't know where you're from and I know box prices differ depending on location but 400 is high for that set up, I pieced this one together on Craigslist for 280 and that's about average in my area if you have a little patience

You must be in my neck of the woods. My shop is in orange. I have the matco version of that box. Paid 500. In better shape with the 2 side chests.

That first set is very similar to my setup, I bought them separately, top is Mac, bottom Matco, same factory though.
Spent $200 all together.

so i ended up getting the second box i posted. Its in pretty great shape besides one big ding on the side of the top box, it does not affect the drawers there though. And i think it can easily be fixed.

not to mention, i am a much bigger fan of the single handles that run the length of the drawers. rather then the double handles

Elguappo.. is the "no tools loaned" painted on or a decal. I love the way it looks either way!

Sounds like you got a good deal on a nicer set of boxes. I'd much rather have the set you got vs the ones in your first post. They might be stamped or have a sticker to indicate model and year. I think those are the Husky/waterloo boxes from the early to mid 90's. Bobcatdan knows alot about those boxes. Is your new set ball bearing or friction slides?

Both the 'No tools loaned' and the 'Big Al' with Mickey as the sorcerers apprentice are hand painted, quite nice work.

Also want to do a little maintenance on the rails for the drawers, how would you suggest i do this?

so got the box unlocked, new key. but the bottom box does not lock/unlock all the drawers. i looked in the back and noticed the mechanism seems worn out, as it doesn't lift the rails that lock the drawers all the way up,. any suggestions?

Smidge, take some pictures of the box and send them to Mac. I had the same box (husky labeled) and the were able to get me the correct drawer slides. That box is an economizer if it is 18" deep. I used mine for a long time and it held up awesome. I believe these were made in Canada. The box came as a Mac, husky, proto, and Waterloo.
