My father was a Machinist in the 50's and 60's working in Aerospace. When he passed I inherited his tool box still loaded with all his tools, manuals, etc. It does not have any manufacture tags or labels. Only marking are on the back of each drawer. 39-1 through 39-10. I am guessing it was the 39th toolbox built and the last number was the drawer number. Trying to find out more info on it. Any help would be appreciated. I know he had it in the 60's when I was a child so it's at least 65 years old.

That box is amazingly clean with almost no signs of wear at all. Are you sure that is the same box he had and used for 65 years? Was it recently stripped and refinished with new green felt?

The handle looks like old leather more reflective of a 65 year old box.

Those old machinists tool boxes sat on a bench and were treated like treasured furniture.
Unlike a mechanic’s box they were used to guard and protect tools, not to transport them from job to job.

Marv, Your Dad's machinist tool chest looks like it may have been made by Union of Gerstner.
