I recently came across this vintage Manley hydraulic floor jack that measures about 50 inches in length. It works, but there is some leakage of hydraulic fluid in the piston shaft that pumps the jack up. You can see it most clearly in the last attachment (the shiny shaft that looks wet). The owner said that as the jack just sits there unused it slowly leaks. He never bothered to fix the leak, and he's used it like this for decades. My question is this: do they jacks use O-ring seals or packing at this location? Could it be as simple as tightening the packing by a turn of the screw around this shaft (you can see the holes where you would grab it to turn it)? Any idea? Can rebuild kits or parts be found anywhere for a Manley floor jack this old? It's at least a 4 ton jack. Thanks for any insight.
