So while at a flea market I picked up a cool old school vintage craftsman toolbox for $10. Needed a replacement for work. Inside to my suprise was an old 3/8 ratchet that says "mustang" on it. Now im a sucker for ratchets and although my go for for work is my trusty S-K, it never hurts to have backups. So my question is does any one have any idea on the history or era of mustang tools? I used it for a few hours to test it out and although i wasnt in love with it like i am my SKs it was definitely pretty good... Thanks!

Post a picture (or two)! I have a couple of misc Mustang tools I've found and put away, but have yet to see a ratchet.

I have only ever seen a 1/2 drive mustang ratchet. You must post pictures.

I seen a complete set a few weeks ago, and didn't pull the trigger fast enough. The owner decided he would keep them instead. Like I need more socket sets. :p

I picked one of these up a few weeks ago and I'm surprised at home smooth it still is. It's interesting to see how econoline tools from the 1950's compare with econoline tools today....

Since you said it's smooth, I'll guess it's not the earliest Fors ratchet (top 1/2"). The Kilness ratchets came with a few different reverse caps, the two odd 1/2" ones are the earlier versions, but all the round heads share the same guts.

New Britain made a darn good and reliable ratchet - I've stumbled on a few rough ones, but they almost always clean up real nice.
