Hey folks-not a lot to go off here but trying to ID this plane that is up at an estate auction. I’ve gotten into restoring planes for fun and to use and trying to figure out if this one is worth pursuing since it’s about a 1 hour drive away.

As seen in the pic there are a couple markings that may be useful in the pic for ID including the cross symbol on the iron cap and the toe markings of “II 04”.

All help is appreciated!

First thing I always do is remove the iron (Blade) and see who the manufacturer is, usually stamped at the top. However, sometimes irons are replaced with parts from another manufacturer during use through the years. Still a good place to start.

Yeah that’s the challenge…I can’t physically inspect it prior to bidding. If it’s cheap enough I may just get it and go from there.

The lever cap on that is from a Stanley Four Square plane, one of their homeowner grade planes.
This may be its much more attractive brother. Overpriced in my opinion, but very clean example.

I personally wouldn’t waste the gas to drive an hour for it, even if free.

but if you are buying other stuff, and can get this for near free.

This is very helpful! There are a few other items I am looking at so if I can throw this in for peanuts I’ll pick it up. I’ve personally never seen the 4-squares so thank you for the info.
