I recently pick up an old Leonard Bailey Victor Plane from a salvage yard. It's a jointer Plane 24" long and is of the type made late 1870's to late 1880's. My question is this.. one side is stamped into the body "Pat. Room G.Glyman Pat. Room"...without quote. Does anyone know what this means? Did Patent officers stamp their names on these early plane?

It might be a patent model. Patent models used to be required with patent submissions. The patent office dumped all of the patent models a few years ago. They turn up now and again.
