Hello everyone, Im new here - first thread/ question - I checked out your stuff - seems like the most tool knowledge i've seen anywhere - so if any group can help me out - its you guys. I own a swivel bench vise that is really well made , most likely 40's - maybe older - problem is : I cant find any information on it anywhere and im trying to sell it - wont sell if I don't know my product or pricing potential. heres the info - only one Marking , stamped "REX" in a recess - 4" jaws - 12" Slide - about 50 lbs. Any thoughts?

or 2 new members wanting to know more about a vise before one of them buys it???

welcome to GJ and once you read the thread Filson gave you a link to you will find some information from one of our wiser Vise Gurus. I think they narrowed it down to a Prentiss made vise which is a very good old US making company.

good luck

Jared, in case Filson isn't still online he posted a link to the potential buyer's thread he started on GJ. click on it and just read the posts.

if it's your vise are you planning on selling it or just wanted to know more about it before bolting it to your bench?

Drivesitfar - not sure what I wanna do yet - I really like the piece - but I do have a modern one for work -if it can make someone happy and bring me a healthy amount of cash - SOLD! - if its winds up just bein a well made vise that can be sold by the pound - i'll restore it - probably airbrush on a t-rex just to make my son happy - we'll see , I guess

I'll bite since nobody else has asked. What's the deal with the main nut backing itself out the back of the vise? Is it possibly missing a pin to secure it and prevent this? :headscrat

gateway good call. I noticed that but I was getting a huge case of Deja vu with this vise. i'm guessing the pin just needs to be put back in because that screw piece looks pristine.

Jared: where are you located? if you are talented enough to paint a T rex on it I might buy it if you don't want to keep it?

So you removed the pin and backed the nut out for the pic? :headscrat

I'm confused, but still a nice vise.

Besides a light coating of rust, it looks like lightly used. Clean and paint it and list for $100 O.B.O. More if you do a nice airbrush. Better yet list it and let the buyer choose what to airbrush on it. Flames anyone?
