I bought this rachet at a swap meet because I was puzzled. Obviously the selector is craftsman but with the round knurled I have never seen one before. Any ideas or is it 2 different components?

Pretty sure someone "fixed" that one that way, lets hear what the experts say.

We need better pictures.

I seem to remember that Craftsman offered a similar ratchet with the thumbwheel for a VERY short time, but I don't know if it was that model.

The other thing it might be is - Craftsman offered metal add-on thumbwheel disks for a while that slipped over the anvil of the ratchet (later they were blue plastic). It may be one of those.

You talking about the "V" selector ratchet?

 Ha Ha - no, I didn't even look at that one. I was focused on the ratchet in front.

You're right, that is a frankenstein. As far as I know, the Butterfly selector was only offered on the teardrop/raised panel ratchets. Someone swapped out the long lever on that ratchet.

Does that ratchet say Craftsman on it ? It might be an Easco/Danaher.

Should have specified a little more. I am talking about the one with the v selector and the round knurled handle. It has no markings on it all. I can get some more pics and clearer. I just found it odd the gearing and teeth would all match up to make a usable ratchet. Someone must have gotten lucky but for 50 cents might make a good parts ratchet for a craftsman.

It's just a Japanese ratchet where they copied the Craftsman selector. I've bought one or two over the years. I've also seen other Japanese no-name ratchets that were trying to copy other Craftsman designs.

IIRC I've seen some Asian knockoffs with that selector.

I have had several Japanese made ratchets exactly like that over the years.

I can back up all these guys. That ratchet usually is stamped Japan very small on the underside. Seen a bunch of that ratchet but never one with a brand name on it. I've wondered if it was sold under Truecraft or Oxwall because both have had ratchets that looked like Craftsman knockoffs.

Here are two good old threads on Craftsman style Japanese knockoffs.
Member Superautobacs even figured out who the Japanese maker was for the round head look alike ratchets. I can't say anyone knows but it's possible they made these V-selector ones too.
