The color changed at some point from a more orange red, to a more red red, but I don’t know when.
A large number of the Ridgid models have been around for decades though.

Are you asking about the bench model or the tripod model?

Basic design hasn't changed in forever, but the earlier models are preferrable. A bit more clunky, but a lot stronger.

Look on Vintage Machinery.org and you might find details. I have a few very old Ridgid vices. Two of them were my Father's. This males them about 80 yo. There are a few very old. These have wood as part of the handles. These are in my plumbing tool drawer.

Ridgid is one of the few brands where I don't care how old or new the model I have is. Always have been and remain excellent tools.
