Maybe. If so, the features I have associated with Welsh might be more of a timeframe thing common to Sellstrom and other Mfgrs. It just seems like every example I see that look like those are Welsh. Ah well, another puzzle.

My collection of vintage safety glasses.
Top row left to right: willison wv10 with mesh sides, willison wv60 with leather sides, and I believe American optical company green lenses and side shields. Bottom row: American optical company f3147 no side shields, Bausch & lomb 5y80t01c16 no side shields.

Nice collection, 1bb.

A few questions:

Do any of them have an inscription/etching on the lenses similar to the inscriptions/etchings shown in post #31 in this thread? I don't mean the identical monograph (if that's indeed what it is), but any monograph type etching. If so, please post zooms.

Are you getting the make and model number off the NOS box? off the glasses? or both?

If I posted close-ups of the safety glasses without side shields shown on the lower right in post #29, would you physically compare them to your AO F3147's?

To answer your questions:
#1 the AO Smith have the same markings as your previous post. Wilson has a side ways W towards the outside edges on the lenses. The green pair from my previous boost has a different on as well.

#2 yes I have the n.o.s. boxes which is where I'm getting the model numbers.

#3 the glasses in post 29 look to be the same as my AO Smith F3147.

These aren’t safety glasses, but they are goggle-like, and there really isn’t a more appropriate thread. It's a WWII U.S. ARMY CF-8 Stereoscope. I found it in a load of old mechanics' tools at the flea market today.

It’s placed over stereographic aerial photographs (or stereograms) to create a 3D image in human vision, to enhance the analysis of terrain features for targets (such as hidden Nazi V-2 rocket bases). It’s made of pot metal, painted black, with two 2x lenses.

While the old timer may have been a WWII vet, or perhaps his dad was, this was not with any other memorabilia. It was thrown in the box and obviously being used hard. The fold on the leather snap case is gone from opening and closing. I suspect he was using it as a magnifier, to see small print (schematics) or small parts (for repairing). Pretty cool.

I happen to have an original Field Manual for reading aerial photography, including stereograms, and I took some pics of it with the manual for full contextual effect.

Picked up these Welsh No. 6 goggles today at the flea market in their original box. Each lens is marked with the WM logo and the frame is marked Welsh Mfg.

My grandfather died in 1972 at age 60, 3 years before I was born. He was a machinist. These are his safety glasses. My dad kept them above his drafting table. He was a draftsman and died in 1991 at age 49. I don't know anything about the glasses, but I keep them in the shop. It helps me feel connected to these 2 men.

Yep, I get it. I also have his Lufkin tape measure and his entry level drafting tools he bought for drafting school.

I picked up these beauties at an estate sale the other day:
50511527796_e2a1d6e1ea_b.jpg
Obviously for gas welding, due to the seriously dark lenses, they are flat fronted with wire temples and look like they could be worn over regular glasses. Which is what I would have to do if I was going to use them.

Ran out for my lunch hour to retrieve a Craftsman Heritage logo "Lunch Pail" hand carry box, and after dumping out the worthless contents and rusty dusty residue, this pair of Bouton U-Fit Made in USA glasses revealed themselves and to my astonishment presented themselves in near mint scratch-free condition!

Picked up a few cool safety glasses at an estate sale. Not sure how safe they are to today’s standards, but they look better than anything you buy at the big box stores. 4057d2f1fd308ccc6d3fc327356db82b.jpg

I snagged these welding safety goggles at the flea market this morning. No more than eyecups, really. Not sure how old they are (looking 1940's to me...) or what they actually protect against (i.e., UV, IR, visible light, etc), but the lenses are very dark green. No markings anywhere.

I was quick to spot and snag these "Telesight" vintage magnifying specs at the flea this morning. The last patent number (Moses Frommer, Brooklyn, NY) on the box was granted in 1961. The first patent number (also Frommer's) on the box, which is also marked on the lower part of the right lens frame, is from 1947. They fit, work well, and I really dig the rectangular style.

Oh, and just by complete coincidence, Mrs. Lugz and I went to a collegiate related shindig involving one of our daughters just last night in Philly, and I snapped a photo of this sculpture outside the building. Ben Franklin's specs!

We don't have a Welsh Mfg thread, and we don't have a vintage jewelers' screwdrivers thread, but we have this vintage shop goggles thread, where I've already posted these vintage Welsh shop glasses, so this is where I am posting this set of Welsh military spec (GGG-S-121a) jewelers' screwdrivers in their original box, found at the flea market earlier this morning.

Here's my meager assortment. I recently found the two plastic ones and the little Zippo example in a trash bin. The two Bausch and Lomb lenses are glass, but the little pull outs in the Zippo magnifier are plastic. I don't know what the two lenses in black brass bezels came out of. I am tempted to disassemble some old camera lenses to steal the glass bits and then make holders for them. Not today though. The two largest lenses came out of desk top magnifying lamps.

There are a ton of these advertising magnifiers on the auction site. I stole this image, just for fun.

I think these old glasses are beautiful, but I'm glad I don't need those corrective lenses. I have the old case for them here somewhere and another set of tinted welding glasses I'll share when I come across them.

Picked up another pair of tinted safety glasses with spatter shields, very similar to the pair I found around Halloween. (I would've used St. Nick on the front porch as a model, but he's already wearing wire-rimmed specs! :)) I like the way the wire temples aren't integrated into the shields on these, and the way they hinge the opposite way, which allows them to fold up smaller. I'll need to jury-rig something for the left ear.

Thanks to some of the posts above, I can identify the goggles I bought today as having been made by Willson.

1674008420535.jpeg

Oops, now that I look at these photos, I also see the AO logo on the shield.

1674008967962.jpeg

I located the case for the glasses I posted above. I suspect it may be the original, since it's what I found them in. I rinsed them off for the photos this time. (not the case though)

A couple of oldies dredged out of my workshop storage zone for "interesting old stuff".
The bakelite goggles have screw off lens caps, so that colored lenses could be placed when welding (if you had some colored lenses). Marked "Pat Pend" "#527 Cesco" (Cesco = Chicago Eye Shield Co, operated 1903-1980ish)
The glasses look similar to old Cesco products pictured on the web, but are unmarked except for "63/4/AO" on the arms. A bit of corrosion starting, and the side shields seem to have shrunk a bit and no longer fit easily around the eyepiece frame.

Here are a pair of what I am guessing is 80s vintage safety glasses I got as part of my WW secret Santa exchange.

These look exactly like my dad's regular glasses from that era, so they aren't touching my face , for fear the style may be contagious.

I was happy to find two military aviator style clip-ons at the flea this morning. Shown with a pair in its original green faux leather 1951 U.S. pouch, a find from many years ago, posted on page 1.

I have posted several types of magnifiers in this thread, from a WWII era map reader to regular old loupes. When I plucked this box out of a machinists' chest this morning at the flea, I thought the "Magna" in the brand name "Magnaglass" was a reference to magnifying. I barely looked at it long enough to drop it in my should bag before moving on and I did not look at it again until a few minutes ago when I cleaned it up to stage these photos for this post. I was right, but it has a double meaning as well. The whole point of this magnifying monocle was to place it on a rule or calipers or something else with gradients that might be hard to read with the naked eye. And the user could do so hands-free, because it has magnets built into it!

Pretty dang cool.

I picked these up at the flea market yesterday. House liquidator lot. Double lenses. Military, perhaps, and if so, thinking 70's, but no gov't markings. OD green vinyl pouch has the look - and also provisioned for looping on a strap. Made by American Optical, which did supply the military, Bell, and other large enterprises. No idea what that "05/90" marking designates, guessing model number, but it can't be vision.
