Wondering about my sk ratchet, when I look it up online I only find round Handel 42470 ratchets. I bought a few old tool boxes few years back and I believe they were the wwll 503 jeep kits... Damn things weighed prob 130 lbs each. Anyways if anyone can shed some light on this odd ratchet for me that would be great.

Welcome to the GJ. Finding an S-K marked beaver tail ratchet is rather unusual. They are more often marked “Chrome Alloy” which usually showed up in S-K’s price line in Brazil marked boxes. They were also branded Artisan which was another private brand sold by Gamble’s Auto Stores. I’m really not sure why some were branded S-K but I don’t believe that they were used in military sets. You may find more examples posted on the main S-K thread shown in the Sticky at the beginning of the vintage tool section. Merry Christmas.

Hmm idk really it came with a bunch of other old tools, some I know to be part of military mechanics sets, they all work very well some are rusted but I'm slowly cleaning them with CLR and rubbing them down with 3 in 1 oil. I do use some of the tools when I don't happen to have what I need on hand, are there any that I shouldent use or clean because of value? I only work on things and I love old tools n old coins and old cars and young woman so I don't want to break lose or clean something I should not. I'll prob make another thread with my questions and a short list of things that stick out at me. Any help with brands or tools is greatly appreciated. Thank you all I'm glad I found other people who have similar interests.

Derusting and cleaning by hand as you're doing with oil and maybe a light abrasive (wire brush, steel wool) if necessary usually won't hurt any value. It's grinding and sanding and polishing to a mirror finish on a wheel that can do that.

I'm curious to see what wartime military tools you have and I probably could, along with others here, help you identify them. Jeep kits didn't come in their own box and didn't weigh 130 lbs., either. GMTKs and other sets did, though, and could be quite heavy.

Posting them in threads by type (e.g., double open end wrenches, double box end wrenches) and/or brand (e.g., Bonney, Snap-on, etc) works best. You can find all the major threads in the Index in the Sticky at the top of the board, as Don directed you on Christmas eve.

Unless you're sure they're sets, and belong together, just start a new thread for them.
