Hi guys, first i must say that i am new to this and i am in England so please be gentle with me! Have posted a couple of things but in the wrong section it seems, sorry about that. I have an old ratchet that i am curious about, pretty sure it was made by Snap On as apart from the finish and markings it is identical to my 1941 3/8" Ferret ratchet. The only markings i can see are AT8022 on the handle and a date code G (1945?) between the reverse lever. Does AT stand for Aircraft Tool, Aviation Tool? I believe these may have been made during WW2 for aircraft tool kits/rolls. Am i right in thinking it was part of a kit for planes using the Packard built Merlin engine, P-51 Mustang etc? Makes me wonder where has it been, i wish it could talk! Just wondered how common they are over there, this is the first one i have seen in the U.K. Sorry no photos as i cant get them off my phone, DOH! Very sorry if i have put this in the wrong section. Any info would be great, thanks.

Andy: hopefully somebody will see your thread about your tools and no guarantees. it would help with you posting pictures which it sounds like you have so maybe this thread will help you. if you still can't post pictures just say so and i'll try to help if i see the question or hopefully someone else does.

http://www.garagejournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=296253&highlight=cell+phone+pictures

the way i usually post is take pictures from my cell phone, email them to my laptop, save them to my laptop, then click on the paperclip above where we write our posts then download one at a time. you are limited to 7 pictures per posts, but if you have more pictures make more posts because that isn't limited especially if its cool old tools.

cheers and you'll figure the pictures out and hopefully find out more information about your ratchets too in this case.

Andy: you are good to go in this section if one of the snap on experts sees your thread. we have a few, but we are all catching up on projects while the weather is good so some of us don't get on our computers as much this time of year. me i'm addicted to this place because i think i still learn at least one or two things every day i log on.

good luck and hope it works.

while you are waiting you might do some searching on either this newer vintage section of the general tools section that we used to use for vintage and new tools to see if you can find some of your answers or clues.

Couldnt agree with you more, every day is a school day. The knowledge some of the blokes on here have is impressive. I am by no means an expert and dont pretend to be one. I just have a little knowledge and like to learn from anybody. I see from your number of posts you have plenty experience on here. Many thanks.

It is a Snap on ratchet that was in the Packard built Rolls Royce Merlin Toolkit from the war.

Hard to find here, most of the kits went across the pond with the planes.. There where many makers used in that kit, most of the tools did not have a makers name, but most all the model numbers start with ATxxxx. Most of the tools are Whitworth.

Andy: it looks like one of our best Snap On experts found your thread and gave you the 411 (our old # to call for information before phone books).

did you figure out how to post pictures yet??

just a warning when you become an active member here your wallet won't have much cash in it at any time because you will always have a new or old tool on your wish list. that said i hope you stick around to join in the fun.

Thanks for the help lads, going to get help with photos from a friend. I have seen other tools from this kit, Bonney, Barcalo etc. So most of this stuff came over here. Eternally grateful for everything you lads did for us back then by the way. Never forgotten, respect.

Many time I will make a post on the computer, then log in on my phone and upload the pic from there to the board.
Button sequence:

log in
search new posts to find it
edit post
go advanced
manage attachments
select attachment(pic on your phone)
upload
close this window
post reply

Here's some pics of the ratchet. Many times I have had problems getting pictures on to my posts, it's to do with limited internet, very limited skills, and something i can't be bothered with to do with not having new enough windows...
Here's the sequence I use:
Make nice pot of coffee
Wait for my son to come round
Get him to find the pictures on his phone whilst I pour it
He emails the pics to me
We both have a chat about engines
I save the email pics then attach them to my post..
If it works the world of GJ can see what an old ratchet looks like!
