Vintage snap on socket. Use it, or sell it?

I picked this up in one of the boxes I bought at auction today.
I was just wondering if I should just keep it an use it, or if it would be worth more to a collector.

Or offer it to one of the collectors on this site who are actually nice friendly people..... (as you can tell I'm [publicly] not his biggest fan)


Honestly, you could certainly use it. These were well made, and unless you impact it or use a cheater (that would be abuse) it will not break.

This is not that old of a socket (mid 1940's) and are not uncommon.

I just bought a set of swivel sockets that I intend to use, same era.

Out of curiosity, check the date code. Should be stamped on them .

Single SO sockets seem to sell for just a few dollars. If that's a size you are likely to need, use the **** out of it.

I have 20-30 of those style and I use them when I have to (most are SAE and I work on metric) If anyone wants to trade for newer style ones I'm game. If not they'll get used until broken!

I had one I found in a bucket of sockets at a garage sale that had NO symbol for the year. It was an impact with the first SO logo on it. It was worn and I sent it in and got a brand new one. Hope they liked it enough not to melt it back down at the factory.

i found a 5/8 deep from 1939 i am not going to use it .the older stuff is so cool

I agree, unless it's NOS or you get lucky it's not going to sell for more than a few dollars.

JMHO, use it.
If it were A+ condition, or NOS I might think otherwise.
Good tools, I have a whole 1/2 shallow set in my work box that vintage.

I was going to keep it and use it, but somebody pm'ed me about buying it.

So now it's on it's way to a new home!
