First time poster. I got this off Craigslist, I couldn't resist. I've got a 67 chevy malibu and this vintage Box and Base fit perfectly in my old Model A garage.

What do you think? I don't think I got a steal, but seems fair for $200, right?

The bottom unit is marked KRA-377A and I believe the year is 1962. The top box is unmarked surprisingly so I don't know the model or the year.

-Maybe they were sold together?

I've been cleaning it up and lining the drawers...lots of fun!

I think you got a great deal, but beware! This can quickly turn into an obsession. Run away while you still can!!

Boy you can say that again.
Don't ask me how I know...
And I found out again. Today. :shocking:

Nice boxes you got there. If I'm reading that right I see a tool tote tray in the top box. That is a good find. I've never gotten the original tote except with a smaller hand-carry tool box. The box and the tote both have the same year stamped and are in shockingly good condition considering their age. That was just pure luck.

You might be right about them being sold as a unit. The last two boxes I bought also came as a set.
Both of mine are dated and it's the same year. I think they were bought together and through at least 3 owners and decades of time, they managed to stay together.

I think that top box should be dated. Check the back center. Or the left hand side, a bit towards the lower edge. That's where my top box is stamped.
You might be helped by a strong light, especially if they have been repainted. The stamping is sometimes a bit shallow to begin with.

I'm cleaning mine up now and can't wait to get some liners and start filling them up and using them. Not to mention the whole point is to give things a place to go and get put away.

You did fine. Each of those boxes would sell quickly for 100 bucks each if listed separately and you cannot find any modern Chinese junk for 200 bucks.

Your top box is dated for sure. You simply haven't found it. Sometimes it is hard to see unless you create shadows with a flashlight. It will be on the back of the box in the places already mentioned.

Clean the slides and tracks well. Then lubricate the slides using parafin wax - just rub it on.

Well, I did set a transmission on my bottom drawer, which was open, and bent the slide. So if anyone has an extra slide for a K61, or knows where I can get one....

Unless you put a terminal kink in that slide, it can be straightened. I've brought back several with a big vise, big hammer and patience.

Sort of what I was thinking.
Use a strip of metal or wood the correct thickness to help with the shape if it's real bad, but it is very doable.

That is one thing I like about these simpler designs.
They are so basic and with fewer parts that repairing or even fabricating parts is pretty easy normally. It also makes them stronger and tougher.

So they can take a lot of stupidity but if someone really screws up or there is an accident, they can usually be brought back to Functional.

Good luck repairing a thin-metal rail full of BBs.
