Hello a vintage snap on tool box stack came for sale locally and I was wondering what would be a fair price the way it sits in the pictures with no tools included and the asking price is 185. I believe the top is a kra59F and the bottom is a KRA380A. Thank you.

If not for the horrible repaint that would be a really good deal.
Yeah I figured it was repainted so considering that what do you think a more appropriate price would be for the box. Thank you.

It's a good deal only if you can scrub it up and live with the result.

I've sworn off ever repainting another tool box. If one's time is worth $1 and hour, it's still a losing proposition.

That's a deal. Assuming when you go to see it everything works and there's no dents missing keys damage and other problems ect.

Thank you for the input. The box is missing the keys but the seller is stating that all the drawers work as they should.

Thank you for the input. To be honest as long as the box does not have any serious rust issues I'm fine with some ugly paint or missing paint. I just ask that the drawers work and are not destroyed.

Cover it in stickers from favorite band, manufacturers, and spec sheets. The paint isn't really important as long a it's not hiding bad rust. Check the casters also by the way. If they go the whole thing is worthless. Either way offer 150. Haggle just for the hell of it and then make him load it up for you hahaha :)

Good point on the casters. I always make a point to check them out for rough spots and cracks etc. Yeah it would be nice if he loaded but I like to help because I figure if some one is going to dump the box it might as well be me ;).

Chances are you could hit it with carbs spray and a shop rag (be sure to use a new one so you don't scratch up the box with any hidden swarf) and the repaint will likely come right off. The underlying SO baked enamel on the other hand is hard as nails and may look OK underneath. It will have a nice "patina" fer sure.

Thank you for the information. I will have to try that suggestion for sure just as long as you don't think it might eat all the way through.

Unless it has rust problems or major drawer issues, or is somehow bent up not square. I think $185 is very fair for the combo. Those are nice boxes, but you should know that since you are at the Snap On factory in person. ;)

$185, if you need a tool box, go get it.

I ended up picking the box up for 165. The box sure has a ugly paint job but the metal is solid with only a couple dents and a little bit of rust. All the drawers work well but ill probably end up getting some new slides if the price isn't to bad and ill also get a new badge for the lower. Thank you everyone who gave me information and input.

Doesn't take anywhere long as you think it does to freshen up a box with a new coat of paint. ;)

It depends on how good or bad the condition, how many drawers and one's standards for the finished product. The set which broke me was a '50s-'60s triple-stack I bought filled with classic Blue Point and Snap-on tools and was a beyond-you-****-fantastic deal.

But it had been used commercially, then sat for years. It took two days with grease buster and a lot of elbow grease just disassemble and to get it clean enough to start refinishing. To remove the handles, tap out the dings, putty, sand, prime and paint was another three days. I had a solid 40 hours in that set. Never again.

Your results may vary.
