Vintage Snap on tool set.Some questions

I came across this set in my house when I bought it.I havent really looked at it until now. Seems to be 33 pieces all snap on. No dates on them. Seems to be VERY old. They are all half inch drive and everything works.What is the value of a set like this and where can I find more info on it?

The set looks to be from the early 1920's. Close up pictures of the part numbers will help narrow it down. I don't know what it is worth, I would guess a lot more than a new set cost. You can find more info at the link below.

mid late 20's the t handle looks like 1923-25, the extension 1929, the ratchet adaptor 1923-26, the ratchet late 1920's early 30's

there are lots of pictures for referencing on those sites, just have to do a lot of comparing... the ratchet should have a modle number on it like f-71 or similar I have seen sets siilar bring 300-1000 bucks on ebay.... varies on completion and condition.... you have a VERY colectable set... congratulations

A nice set. Not sure if the box is snap on, does it have a snap on plate on it. The deepwells do not look snap on, nor does the wood handle screwdriver. But the rest of the tools are all mid to late 20s snap on, a very nice lot, with some rare pieces, the ext. with the center grips, rare, the long screwdriver bits, rare. value would depend if the box has the snap on name. so show us a pic of the outside of the box.

Im going to take some close ups in a few minutes. The ratchet only says snap on Milwaukee USA on it.And off and on.No numbers at all. The funky looking ratchet adapter with the teeth says snap on Pat D 1-30-23 I am going to take some close ups now.Thanks again guys

you might take a peak at this chart, has date codes... some times you find them on the tools, sometimes not but always interesting when you do pin point a date

Thank you. I have been staring at each piece for awhile now and I cant see any kind of numbers besides 3 digit ones.No letters or single numbers. This site has helped me out a great deal. I thought they may have been 50's or so.lol

This set was originally sold as The Junior Service Set, from 1927 until about 1930. It was sold as pictured in my set below:

Your box shows some signs of original olive green paint, as does mine. The set is described as being painted black in the catalogs. There is evidence that the box existed earlier than the Junior set itself, but was never sold in the catalogs as just the box. Evidence shows that its possible that the box was sold by Snap-on distributing hardware stores as an empty box to use to put together a set of Snap-on tools for your vehicle.

Therefore, that could put the box itself in the 1923-26 era.

wow thank you. I am going to put them for sale. I am not greedy about things Just hopefully I can get a fair price for them once I know their value. I know a collector will appreciate them and be able to use them much more then I can. if you are going to sell, you might try throwing up a post in the classifieds here, I a sure someone would bite on them,,, also avoid having to pay ebay fees etc... not to mention most of the people here would stand a better chance of appreciation for the tools rather than trying to nab them at a last second bid to try to resell them... just my opinion... I am sure they are out of my price range, but would be woeth a shot

Wait a few days before putting them up for sale. Let some other GJ members drool looking at the pictures. It is a very nice set of vintage SO, good luck and thanks for the thread.
