Vintage Snap-On Toolbox: CHEAP FIND?!?!

I picked up this old vintage Snap On Tools lower toolbox yesterday off of OfferUp for $50.00. I’m not sure how good of a deal that is, or if you can pick these things up for so cheap all the time, but it is in relatively good shape. Unfortunately there was no key included.

I don’t have much information on it yet. No year or part number has been verified (KRA-352?). There’s no rust, the drawers slide incredibly well, and the casters are in fairly good shape as well. I already removed the drawers and casters and started cleaning them. I made a little “drawer removal tool” out of a 99 cent Harbor Freight socket rail that I had laying around; I flattened it with a hammer and it worked like a charm.

As of now, I’m going to clean it up, sand it, get any dings out that I can, and then decide on a color. I won’t be keeping it red. Any suggestions? I was actually considering doing my own twist on a "Socket to Breast Cancer" box. I was thinking about antique Cadillac-inspired pink and eventually when I find a nice top box, go with a nice white "hardtop."

Halfrican,
I hate to say it but you got took on that deal. Hate to see a newbie get stuck so I'd be willing to give you that $50 and I'll take that junk toolchest off to the scrap yard for you! Just shoot me your address I'm on my way.

I'm not a Snap-On guy although I've had a couple of SO toolboxes pass thru my hands. Heck of a nice deal I'd say. If you wanna try to find a replacement key, you might try calling Snap-On customer service. Welcome to GJ!

Thanks for the replies, folks! Glad to see I got a good deal on this old thing, time to preserve a piece of history. I don’t have a huge collection of tools, so I will be able to use it until I begin to overfill it.

Any locksmith should be able to make a key from the number on the lock, if it has one.

My color suggestion is 1978 Cadillac copper Firemist Poly. Sharp color and you won't be duplicated!

That’s a nice color! I wanted to find an old vintage toolbox as well and I definitely wanna do something twotoned. I think a black top with that color would look awesome.
