Vintage SO box maintenance

Found a 36" top box from early/mid 80's. It's real boxey and has the stainless corners. It's on ebay and seller doesn't know anything. Did they use brgs in the drawer slides then? Is there a procedure how to lube the slides?

What model is it?

Bearings.... Most likely not on the top in the 80's. If so maybe limited to the bottom drawer. Again what model?

Snap on recommends a dry wax type lube. They produced a manual for tool box maintenance, it is floating around here. What ever you do DON'T use heavy grease it will make a mess over time. There any many different camps of thought on this topic. Search around and see which appeals you.

My 1988 model KR637 to box has all ball bearing slides except for the little drawers on the right side. The KR667 bottom box has all bb slides. I've replaced all the bb slides on the bottom box and just cleaned and lithium lubed the slides on the top. Works great.

I believe it's a KR650A. Guy wants $650. Seems kind of steep for the old stuff.

Late 60's early 70's. The friction slides were the same uf through the 80's possible beyond.

The problem with grease or oil is that attract dirt. Wax works well.

mid/late 80's is when SO boxes were going over to full roller slides. earlier versions sometimes had a single drawer with roller slides.
i had 2 SO rollers, one date coded '85 with the bottom drawer only roller , the other was '89 and full roller.

looks like the same litature that was in my '85 boxes.

my SO guy gave me a tube of wax "door slide" (or was it "drawer slide"?) when i bought my boxes. looked like an overgrown tube of chapstick, made for wooden drawers
