Does anyone recognize this case? It has a unique clip mechanism to secure a 1/2" drive speed wrench in the lid. No markings on the wrench nor any markings on the case.

Box has a raised points on the bottom to "sit" on some surface, horizontal clips to locate or position the box on the front side, and a central latch.

Thank you for any advice.

From the 1929 cat, not an exact match but similar style.

Seeing as you're in Portland I'd assume ( until proven otherwise) that's an old P&C box like the previous poster's suggested...it is very similar to ones I've seen. "horizontal clips"...it's missing the handle. Were there any tools in it all ( even unmarked ones) when you found it?

Other random stuff. Although that "clip mechanism" to hold the speeders is a clue I might not call it "unique".
That speeder looks really thick, could you check the drive size?, have you actually tried a 1/2" drive socket on it? Obviously the speeder may not be original to the box but P&C generally didn't use that style of handle except on their heavy duty ones.
Another company that used boxes like that and whose speed wrench had that kind of handle was VIM.... and like P&C had logo issues. Whereas P&C had trouble stamping their logo, VIM's looked like 7 little owner's mark slashes. \ / l l\ /l so you might check that wrench one more time. Anyway, pretty cool box.

In that first illustration, you can kind of see the two dimples to the far right in the box bottom like the box in question. That’s a bit of a unique feature, along with the thick walls of the box.

View attachment 1121907Hi. Yeah, here's a P&C from a while back. Can't remember if it had the little knobs to keep it from resting flat...almost looks like a little detent visible in the upper right corner of bottom half but not sure. I think we discussed how P&C's had the walls folded over and it kind of mimicked their earlier wood boxes. Latch and 2 socket trays are different but that doesn't rule out P&C by any means.

That set is a real nice example. I always wanted to find one of those universal extensions since first seeing it on AA. Mac came out with something like those in recent decades but I think the 1/4” I have might have been made in Taiwan by that point IIRC.
