Bought a small (15cm X 6cm) vintage socket set at a local thrift store for $5 the other day. It looks Russian because lettering on the bottom of the set is in Cyrillic. The breaker bar and sockets (which are in metric) look sturdy enough to use on a Soviet T10 tank. It's remarkably heavy for its size and I am wondering if I am the recipient of a bargain or did I pay too much?

Yes, you paid too much. $5 is insane! Better cut your losses and send them my way.

Now...PICTURES?!

If it's anything like the soviet-era watches I have in my collection it'll be made of turnips and despair. :)

I'll second the request for pics. This may be the perfect excuse to pick up a Ural motorcycle... or a Lada if you don't really have anywhere to be.

My Mother, who was about 80, at the time, said after her trip to Russia...

"Everything is gray...even the people...and no one ever smiles..."

Wasn't a vacation hotspot...

Back in the early nineties...

I got her age wrong...she was "only" 75...

Went to law school when she was in her 50's, and practiced for 12 years...bought a 1993 Camaro Z-28 in 1993, sold it three years ago with about 16,000 miles on it...she said, "It has good pickup"....sure do miss her...

Sad for your loss.

People in Russia are generally much happier these days. There are lots of cars and color. Still far behind the US, but so much better than 20 years ago.

Pictures to come (I left my digital camera in San Francisco...) Didn't smell any turnips, but there was a whiff of despair.
