Well I have been searching forums and good old google and cannot find much more info on a set of garage cabinets I picked up. Guessing from a service station or dealership most likely dodge/chrysler. Plan is to redo them into a vintage looking oil or filter company. I do have a old PD Electric cabinet and would like them to first in

there are a lot of DELCO cabinets out there to use as a template but SHELL, GULF, WIX, SINCLAIR, TEXACO or any company that has more vibrant colours would be great

Those are great! The only trouble I have with using some of them is they were built for specific parts, and I don't have those parts to store inside them. Haha

I have some cabinets that look bad like those and would like to clean and paint mine.

How do you letter and logo those?

It looks like the uppers may have been base cabs that were attached to the wall.

Nice set, I am sure they will look great when finished.

Tentative plan is to have a buddy print out a die cut decal and then shoot over it as a stencil. Not sure how it will work out but I will post pics as i start to tackle it

Leave the original logos and wording . . . . just work around them.

Maybe 2 tones of white on front . . . "dirty white" for a square around the logos and wording, than an eggshell white for rest of front of boxes.

Those things are too cool for school!! I'm a fan of patina for the most part tho and I'd just give em a good cleaning.

Any more info on Autopar ? Was it like deco for GM ?

You bet. There's an all MOPAR site called Allpar.com. They have some info here...

http://www.allpar.com/mopar/canadian.html

The term "Chryco" was used by Chrysler of Canada for its parts department from the 1930s into the 1970s. The more the Canadian market was integrated with the American, the more the name "Mopar" was used in Canada. At the same time, the "Autopar" name disappeared. It was used by Chrysler of Canada for its line of parts for non-Chrysler dealers, much like Prestolite, Champion, and the like. Chrysler offered everthing from ignition parts, hoses, brake parts to tires under the "Autopar" name.

Kind of a neat history. It would by nice, in my opinion, if you could save a little of it.

I have an AUTOPAR piece in my shop. A bulk brake pipe hanging rack.

If you'd like to put in some elbow grease you can rub the doors with some 00 or 0000 steel wool that you've dipped in boiled linseed oil, taking care around the logos, and this will help a lot with the rust stains on the paint as well as removing a bunch of rust scale.

Wipe up afterward with a clean rag and more linseed oil. This method can yield some very nice results.

These never ever come up over here, I guess we just didn't have national parts companies that supplied their retailers with cabinets.

Cabinets are making their way to my garage as we speak. Even more impressed with the quality and condition in person. Don't even know where i would start to find something comparable.

The upright cabinet even has a light under the service desk. All doors work well and have "old school" clasps to keep doors closed.

Pics will be posted shortly:beer:

The hinge on the "work order" desk is great and the inside is in good condition. It's tough to tell but there is even a fluorescent light underneath

The bottom cabinets have great shelving that is even on a slight angle so that small parts won't roll forward.

They are really well built. Used to be able to find them cheap but they have been more scarce lately.

Took sometime moving around the garage but pretty sure the cabinets have found their resting place now
