My Dad has quite a few vintage switchblade knives that need repaired. They are not junk, there are some Italian stilettos and Case in the bunch. Does anyone here repair them or know of someone who has experience with vintage switchblades? The only option I have come up with is to take them to a gun and knife show and see if I have any luck there.

Thank you, I didn't even think about looking for a forum for knives :)

Sounds like a cool collection. Just a reminder, they are still illegal to possess in a lot of places, so that may affect who is willing to work on them.

They are legal in Michigan since 2017.

They were weirdly legal before that for people with one arm.

One thing to consider. While these are legal to own in many states, the feds restrict interstate transport. Unless the law has been amended it is a federal crime to mail or transport across state lines.

Ohio sounds quite open regarding those. Nice!
Here in CA you can carry a switchblade as long as the blade is under 2 inches.

Switchblade Laws by State: Owning, Carrying, and Legality
Switchblades, including automatic and gravity knives, are legal to own, carry, and manufacture in Ohio. Following the passage of Senate Bill 140 in April 2021, the state repealed its ban on these knives, allowing them to be carried concealed. Generally, knives are not considered weapons unless used as such, though they are prohibited in schools and courthouses. [1, 2, 3, 4, 5]
Key Details on Ohio Switchblade Rules
  • Legality: It is entirely legal to possess, sell, and carry switchblades, springblades, and gravity knives.
  • Concealed Carry: You may legally carry a switchblade concealed.
  • Definition: The law treats knives as tools unless they are used with dangerous or malicious intent.
  • Prohibited Places: You cannot possess any knife in school safety zones, courthouses, or buildings with courtrooms.
  • Municipal Laws: While state law is permissive, it is always recommended to check specific local ordinances (e.g., in cities like Cleveland or Columbus) regarding knife carrying, although recent, state-level preemption limits local

Wish we could have a proper switchblade. Even the Milwaukee flip style work knives are quasi illegal. IIRC there were some confiscations when they were first launched, but you can get them now no problem, so I have no idea if the gov is turning a blind eye or what, but a genuine switchblade is 100% illegal, which is a stupid law IMHO.

yeah sure okay

I was driving up to Capitol Hill one afternoon.
On the right, in the bicycle lane, was a guy peddling up the hill.
He had a lengthy katana strapped to his back.

Something tells me that some members of our current society simply don't give a **** about "rules" when it comes to blades.

Laws concerning knives and blades can vary widely, with switchblades, “gravity knives”, “flick knives”, or even knives were the blade slides out the front rather than pivoting on a rivet, all being classed as illegal, while carrying a larger fixed blade knife, (or sword), not bring considered or at least classed as illegal.
