Hello everyone, I have purchased some old tool boxes and cases to put my SK and craftsman sets in, some of the cases are missing the hasps or clasps, and some have the leather handle that has finally seen the end of the road.

Is there are source for replacement type restoration hardward, most of the stuff I found is too Big?

I also have an older tool Box that is missing the handle completely, I was thinking going rat rod, and using an old wrench, and two bolts, tack weld the wrench to the bolts ( underneath) so it looks lke the wrench is tightening both bolts and then attach the bolts to the lid, is that too goofy or do I need more coffee? :)

I don't have any info on the logos unfortunately (post back if you find any) but for the color, what I would do is go to your local Kelly Moore/Benjamin Moore and have them color match the box. Tell them you're painting metal and get the alkyd version of whatever they're selling. Probably looking at $20/qt with the match.

Then, get a half-pint of Valspar restoration series paint hardener and a pint of their reducer, or if Valspar isn't available, the equivalent at tractor supply or whoever's near you. I'd also get a quart of Valspar or TSC primer. (If you want to go mail order look at Van Sickle tractor enamels and primers/hardeners/reducers.)

Spray the primer on a test panel, let it dry and follow with the paint using the recommended ratio of hardener and reducer. Let it dry and wait a week to see if there's any peeling or bad reaction. Probably won't be but since you're mixing one brand of paint with another of hardener and reducer there's a possibility. See how it all looks and away you go.
