I'm not sure if there has ever been a thread that specifically focuses on comparing the various boxes/known makers of vintage boxes, but I couldn't find it if there was. So, I thought I'd take a bunch of comparison photos to perhaps begin to figure some stuff out. So first, the suspects:

Twertsy: nice idea for a thread and thanks for putting in all the work you've done so far.

To answer your question about which manufacturer made Snap On boxes there were many as others will hopefully mention on this thread and MB Century or MBC as we call it was one of them.

here's my MBCentury top and bottom boxes i still need to restore and you can see the similarities to some of the older Snap On boxes. the last two pictures are a Snap On box.

I checked my Bonney and it is identical to yours...except...my top tray does not have the cross divider, only the end ones. Could see no sign of it ever being there.

Added a few more boxes by Duplex, SO, Proto, MAC

Added the '50's Pressteel MAC stack.

Added two very old boxes. One Cornwell, one Plomb. If anyone has anymore information to add such as:
- dates (known or where to find stamp)
- manufacturer (if possible, please include source / how you know)
- Any other boxes besides what I've posted so far

Also: I need some scrutinizing eyes on the slides for the CMAN "AMDC" box and the Remline box (they're right next to each other in the pics on page 1). I don't think that CMAN box is AMDC, I'm convinced it's Remline..........thoughts?

Hello, I see it’s been 9 years since this was posted, but I’m trying to locate these specific type handles for a trunk restoration project. Is there a source for such types of spring loaded handles? If I can’t locate this exact type, I’ll settle for two new sturdy handle types, but I am having trouble finding these. Thanks in advance to anyone who might be able to help! - Mike Owens

The side handles like the SK, MBC, Remline, Bonney, and Unknown are pretty common, but there are several sizes, even though they look the same. I have a Craftsman Red/Gray that has this style side handles, too.
