This past Friday I purchased a vintage air compressor from the estate of a gentleman who lived to be 101 years old, and posted a separate discussion on it. While I was there I noticed an old wooden box sitting on the floor of the garage, and when I opened it up I discovered that it had quite a few tools in it. There were also some hand tools spread out on a work bench, so I decided to buy the box with the contents and a number of the other tools. You can see what I bought below. The C clamps are surprisingly heavy duty for their size. The box itself is rock solid in construction, and I think it must be made from some type of hardwood. Whoever built it did it right. There is no rot on it anywhere. I will do my best to clean it up to see what is behind all of the dirt and grime. I paid $15 for everything in the photos.

Nice box. The PO was smart to put a sheath on at least one of his bearing scrapers. They can be dangerously sharp! Those are Lutz file and tool handles the scrapers are inserted in. Who made the adjustable pin spanners? I can't make out the name. I have a set of Bridgeport.

The adjustable spanners are labeled The Vlchek Tool Company. Yes, the bearing scrapers are very sharp indeed. It looks like he made them out of files.

What sizes are the spanners? I'm looking for a #1.

Here’s a close-up of one of the Vlchek adjustable spanner wrenches. Notice it is marked “Patent Applied For”. The other spanner is stamped No. 2.

Thanks, #1 would be smaller than the #2.

My No. 2 is smaller than the one in the photo. I do have another one in the box that is smaller than both, but it was made by another manufacturer.

The screw on the C-clamp seems to be fine thread. That would make sense with the heavy construction. The clamp seems to be designed to get the maximum clamping force.

spanner nut.jpglike this one
used in industrial application mostly, some have holes
instead of slots around the edge.
