That looks similar to a Woden vise, but not exactly the same.

Maui: i was thinking it might be a Woden too, but there is a logo just above the swivel lever that isn't a Woden so wondering who made it.
Teen: it's probably a European or early made in Japan or Taiwan vise so not a bad vise, but with one of the jaws missing half of it not only will you need a new jaw, but the screw could be an issue. either broken off, stripped or worse. if it's cheap i'd probably buy it even if for only a beater or a parts vise if you can use one. would be too costly probably to flip since it doesn't look like a high dollar vise when you restore it. i'd be curious if you see it in person if you can get more pictures of the logo maybe cleaned up or any other writing on it. i used to take a toothbrush and some Simple green or any cleaner will do to check out vises to find cracks or names hidden under the crud and i'd advise you and others do the same.

TEEN: i wouldn't pay much more than $20 for it and $10 would be better and point out the busted jaw. also tell the seller that new jaws are almost the most expensive part of a vise restoration. be nice about it and i bet he'll let you have it or trade him something you have duplicate or triplicate of.

He wants $80 for it. I need a six inch vise but not one with a broken jaw for that price. And I only do Craigslist not eBay for something like that.

TEEN: i think you are located in Southern California or can you go in your GJ profile and put an area in there so maybe another member can help you? also while you are in there click on Avatar and download a favorite picture like i did with the Bison made out of scraps. you can change your avatar as you wish, but if you can keep one for a while it helps some of us (especially us old guys) remember who you are.
i'd pass on that vise for anything over $20, but as you might know i don't NEED a vise and i'm not in your area to know for sure what the market is.

Southern California yes. Specifically riverside for those nearby. Need 6 inch vise because the little orange Irwin pony vise holds about as well as my grip. My stepdad is willing to pay around $80 for a good vise. And has said that after the swap meet in Long Beach for those who know what I'm talking about I forget when it is, unless he finds one there or by then he will get that Irwin blue Irwin vise in Home Depot but we would prefer an older one

Keep hunting for an old vise they are well worth it. If you haven't already look for a local tool sale group on Facebook. I have found some very nice tools on there from families selling grandpa's tools as a good number of people are not comfortable with craigslist. Just another place to look.

Most old 6 inch jaw vises are going to be well north of 80 bucks. You would have to be in it for twice that amount to even get lucky on a Craigslist posting.
The vise you've posted is scrap metal. It will cost more than it's worth to make it work and even then, it's not going to compare to the quality of an old American bench vise.
Take the advice of others and pass on this one. Save up your money and begin hunting for a good quality American/European made vise.

TEEN: you'd be surprised how well an old 4 to 5 inch old US or European vise will do. i bet a 4 inch vise will do 90% of any work you want it to and the older ones weigh about 50 pounds and up. PM me with your email and i'll try to find a member close to you that might have an extra one to sell you.
i bought a 4 inch MORGAN vise from a 95 year old that was the only vise he had in a hanger that held the 4 planes he built with it. it weighs about 50 pounds and is a very well built vise just for an example.
IH is correct an old 6 inch vise that weighs over 100 pounds is going to cost a lot more than $80, but once you get a good 4 to 5 inch old vise on your bench you'll have all the time in the world to find one and save up to buy it.

That one is an Asian copy of the typical English style, if it was English it would say so.
Looks like one of the older better ones before they worked out people would buy them even if they were rubbish as long as they were cheap.
I wouldn't pay $80 even if the jaw plate wasn't broken. If I wasn't broken it would actually be a decent usable vise provided you kept the hammer away and didn't use it as a press.

Teen, another thing to keep in mind when looking is often people will list their add with VICE vs VISE I found a nice woodworking screw vise that way.

if that vise had it's swivel base and was in great shape maybe $75-100, but it's not in great shape so keep looking.
look for MORGAN, REED, ROCK ISLAND, PARKER, COLUMBIAN vises. Wiltons have a great name cause of their marketing so they seem to sell for quite a bit more. that same red vise in a Craftsman or Columbian would be a bit less expensive.

Colombians are listed at $50+ higher than I can get the Wilton for plus 2 hour round trip. 40 dollars higher for one without swivel base.

I have gotten by for over forty years with a fixed base Columbian 505. Some of the cheaper Wiltons will not be appreciably better than your Pony. Best of luck finding a good deal.

good luck and ask if you need any help spiffing it up, but just a little cleaning and new grease should be all it needs. maybe rub some BLO (boiled linseed oil) on it to make it shine a bit more if you want to and i usually pick up half empty cans of the stuff for $1 or $2 at sales so keep your eyes peeled and buy a few.
