Vintage Wera Screwdrivers

So I was at a flea market today and I was digging through some screwdrivers and I unearthed a large collection of Wera screwdrivers. They didn't look like the regular wera sold today. There was torx that had the standard looking grip but were blue and grey,several green and red robertsons and a few philips. The philips and robertson had solid color handles. But what seemed strange all of them had chrome shanks and didn't have a nice look to them. They almost look cheap and the robertsons looked seriously worn. I asked the salemans where he got them and he told me in a serious german accent "I bring from old country". The robertson or squaredrive I though was defunct in Europe now days so I'm not really sure how old they are but are the old wera as good as the new wera. I never bought them but it's been bothering all afternoon that I didn't.

the robertsons are color coded it seems. The handles come in different colors:

Robbies are in north america atleast color coded. No sorry I have no pics. I have a set of wera's that came with the robertsons pictured in the link above. but these were different. The handles were shaped like always but they didn't have the second colour in them. But it was the chrome shanks and shabby looking tips that bugged me.

Here's one of similar style to your Green one. From the late 80's.
ratchetless reversible roller clutch and collet bit retainer. 6mm removeable shaft and storage in handle. Always been a favorite of mine.

Yeah, the plain colored craftform handles are pretty dull. Good stuff, though.

They used that mechanism in quite a number of sets/configurations so there should be some floating around.
I gave my son one of the Large biege 900's. Nice heavy duty SD.

Resurrecting an old thread and with hopes the photo's above will be reposted due the lame photobucket debacle. Would be great to see some of those old Wera catalogs reposted. There's so little info out there on the older Wera.

Yesterday, I was given this Wera Rocko Vario driver set with the vintage candy apple green handles. Looks like there's almost no info on these older Wera's on the internet.

EDIT: Looking at the catalogue above (Thanks to kythri) this set is Wera model number: "832/34" "multi-purpose Set", 34 piece set.

There is virtually nothing on the internet about this set; Seems to be as rare as kryptonite.


Have to say I really like the feel of these green handles, I think better than the newer handles, these green ones are similar feel to the older Snap-On handles. The friction ratchet actually works well but have only played around with it. Pretty easy to change directions. All made in Germany.

The 1/4" socket set is a mixed bag with metric (4mm-12mm) and imperial up to 1/2", unmarked on tray. Also comes with a massive #4 Phillips bit that wouldn't be too practical with a set like this. The set comes in a metal case. Any more info on these would be great.

I think the german engineers at the time were tweaking out on Jolly Ranchers (company Christmas gift?) when then came up with the color.

I now really miss my mine, didn't think I needed this set when I sold them (had 40 drawers just for tools back then). Thinking back, they were really nice and useful.

For all the ones pictured at least, they were manufactured while any other country Wera would have made them were either part of the USSR or USSR-Jr-Czechoslovakia. Every photo that I see in this thread, the tools would be made in West Germany.
