Actually I agree with you two. I was probably referencing the wrong wrench in my mind, but as long as I have your eyeballs, maybe you can look at this one, and lob a guess my way. Marked "Chrome Alloy Model 19727" with no makers branding on reverse like the Williams of that era.

Chrome-Alloy was a marking Williams used briefly in the early 1940s. "9727" is a standard Williams 9/16" x 5/8" DBE. Not sure what a "1" prefix would indicate.

As always, fantastic insights!! Thanks all! Maybe these are manufacturing "2nds" that somehow fail a QC inspection, but too good to scrap, and as such they stamp them out differently and sold through back channels?

I’ve been meaning to post this ratchet here. 2nd one down, marked Gray Alloy Steel. That’s Gray, the Canadian tool mfr..

The rest aren’t super interesting. Various Wright (short black, longer black, and gray handle), and Wright made round heads for Fairmount and Powrkraft. However, the Gray Canada has to be seldom seen in the US. I have several large 1” drive rats they made for Gray as well, round head design with knurled handle.

I thought it was cool to find a 3/8 Gray.

I picked up this N-70 off of eBay recently. It's a little different than this one. Don't know if it's actually different or the directional selector disk is missing. Anybody see a 1954 version like this one?

I got this 4429 today, so now i have both Wright offset ratchets. I picked up the 3429 last year i think.

Something funny is going on with the date stamps. The 4429 is dated 64, but the 3429 has code D, which is also 64
Regardless, its cool they are both '64

Well, hard to follow 3bay's excellent ratchet find but I noticed that there is an Ebay auction running ( not inexpensive and owner's marks, I have no association with it)) that does contain a 40+ code Wright wrench as well as a -41 and a 9+. A couple of us were discussing the 40 date code and date codes in general a few pages back so if anyone is trying to research that sort of thing that auction might be worth a 'screenshot'. "4 vintage Wright wrenches" should bring it up.

The comments on the Bonney thread a few weeks ago about beveled box ends and Barcalo scoops had me wondering about this 7/16" Wright combo I picked up a while back.

Both sides are marked the same, it has a D forged in (1964 date code?), and the box end is similar but not identical to the Barcalo 1/2" raised/ depressed combo and 9/16" raised panel combo in the pics.

There don't seem to be many old Wright catalogs out there, and I don't recall seeing one like this posted before. Any thoughts?

The open end looks identical to some Wright combos i have from the 70s...but the box end on mine looks "normal".

Here's the first one I found...1969 (J) 1-1/16" combo.
Open end looks just like yours.

Edit: it's hard to tell in these pics, but the flats on both sides of the beam are slightly concave. The stamping is on the ends of the wrench vs the middle. I only have 2 wrenches in this style, other one is 1-1/8" but I can't find it at the moment.

Found it. The 1-1/8" combo is dated 1970 (K)
Both of these bigger combo wrenches have pretty severe plating burn marks.

I also found this cute little unused 1/4 and 5/16 DOE, concave shank like both of ours. Dated 1972 (M)

Sorry i cant help with the box end mystery. Vintage wright wrenches are not common here in Ohio, but the sockets are everywhere.

Thanks again Dave. I'm surprised old Wright wrenches are hard to find in Ohio, but I can relate- they're uncommon here as well. I've seen a few rusty combos with the small font like yours but don't own any. I think I might have a couple small DOEs in one of the piles of unsorted treasure, I'll dig around this afternoon.

AA shows one Wright combo and one DOE like yours, both with J (1969) date codes.

Found a 3/4" on the bay on this sunny afternoon. Date code is F. Font and stamping is different than mine, and davethorik's DOE. It's item 184108134706.

Just looked a lot like this Walden to me. Especially with the split in the knurling that's typical of the Walden grip design.
But there are some obvious differences.

Going back to your previous posts OTG, this nice example of a Billings LS-1410 was calling my name. Looks like it was based on the N70 as well, though slightly longer than its Wright counterpart.

Also, a Crescent CS70 with the star selector, though a bit hammered.

Now going back a page to the Gray Tools (Canada) 3/8 ratchet, these are the large 1” drive Gray items that were picked up at a sale down the road from the shores of Lake Ontario (US side- Wilson, NY) a few years back. This sale had the most Gray I’ve seen in one place, nearly all of the tools that were there.

Wright indeed made ratchets and drive tools for many brands, especially in the large 3/4” and 1” department. Some brands you wouldn’t even expect.

These Gray are the classic Wright design we all know, but they were also branding large drive stuff for others in the older ratchet models (pear head, and screw fastened head rats) as well.
