Now, don't flame me for being impractical; this is a collectible, not a user!
I have (courtesy of a GJ-er) a very nice Penncraft vinyl tool roll. It has a solid blue back and clear front, holds six combo wrenches and is in excellent condition, all the logos still sharp and clear. It's made of slightly heavier vinyl than other similar rolls I've seen (like from HF), but I'm still worried that it may harden and crack with time. It's already 30-40 years old, so I keep it in a toolbox out of sunlight or even daylight.
Is there any kind of preservative that will extend its life? Actual experience would be preferable. One name that comes to mind is ArmorAll, but I used that on a motorcycle seat once and it made it sticky.
And I know that liberal applications of oil and grease don't help! My HF roll disintegrated in a couple of years of actual use.
I've made tool rolls out of old blue jeans, and they've worked great and lasted many, many years, but the point of this exercise is to preserve the gin-you-wine Penncraft roll.
All suggestions welcome!
