Vinyl siding installation question

I'm looking at installing vinyl siding on my garage soon. I've done this before, before the garage was enlarged, but now I'm looking at doing this before any of the exterior outlet/light boxes or hose bibs are installed, primarily due to the fact that I've got the materials for the siding, but haven't found the fundage for the electrical or plumbing rough-in yet. Which brings me to the question: do I need to locate and install junction/outlet boxes in the exterior sheathing before I install the vinyl, or will I be good with locating the trim rings only at this point, and coming back later to install the penetrations at rough-in? If I need to install the outlet and junction boxes prior, what is the correct way to do this? Should the face of the box fit flush with the sheathing, or come thru a bit? Any insights would be very much appreciated.

What you can do is to install wooden panels where you want to put an electrical box or light. If you nail the corners of the wood first and then cover with the metal flashing, you can cut it out later on. If not, then just install the electrical boxes and forget the rest. You can wire them later on from the inside. I like the metal flashed wood panels better than the type of device that the siding people sell. It is faster, less expensive, and overall better for holding the outlets. I even put one between the doors for the door operator pad.. I can take pictures in the morning if you like..

they make boxs with intergrated J channel. Just cut a hole in the plywood slip it in and side around it. They come with a weather roof cover as well.

Junkman, pics would be great. I'm not so good at visualizing things in my head.

KMR, I haven't seen those boxes before. I'll have to Google for that one.

Thanks!

i would install something like this when you get to the point that the siding is up that far. Reason being is that it can then be installed with the siding and everything will look level, even if it is out a small amount. If you install all of your outlet boxes / lighting boxes first, say as on each side of a garage door, the siding could be off enough that you are cutting into a piece of siding below one of the boxes / trim pieces and the other would fall even with a piece of siding. If that makes sense as to what I am trying to say.
