Vinyl siding or metal building?

New to the site and am very impressed with the number of topics and replies by all the members. Seems to be a very large knowledge base and I always like getting the straight scoop from real folks.

I am at the design stage of my second garage build. Just moved into a new house and left behind a vinyl sided 24' x 24' with 18' door and 10' walls that I built myself (images below). New place has an attached but just not big enough.

I am going to build a 24' x 48' with a 12' x 48' carport attached to one side. 10' walls, 18' overhead door (on 24' side), 8' overhead utility door opposite the 18' door (in back). I think a metal building with a brick front is the way to go.

I know there are all types of metal buildings out there, but generally speaking, how much can I save over a conventional building with the same features?

Well I just had a 21x18 fully enclosed metal garage built and mounted to my driveway 4500.00. The thing is solid as a rock. Just had the floor poured and for 6000.00 I have a beautiful garage. Money saved.....20,000.00 I imagine.

If you can do all the work yourself, there isn't much difference between a nice stick built garage and a metal building.
Back in 2004 I built my 24x48 stick built garage with 10' walls. I did all the work myself including the dirtwork and the concrete. I put vinyl siding on it because it was cheap. In a few years when the vinyl is dead, I'll replace it with steel siding to make it last for the long haul.
The materials and equipment rental (Bobcat, concrete saw, jackhammer) cost me $10,000. I probably could have done a metal building somewhat cheaper, but I would never been as happy as I am with my wooden building.
Also, this way I was able to build the garage to match the house so it looks like they have both been here forever. It really helps my landscaping to be able to make the garage blend into the property.

Thanks for the feedback. Did you put a on brick front and shingle roof when you built originally?

What don't you like about a metal building as compared to a wooden one?

I was thinking of a wooden frame with metal siding and roof instead of using metal framing. Much easier to hang shelving and tools on the wood framing.

What company did you use for the build? Do they have a website?

Yes..it's TNT carports or carports.com. They were great and the building is super strong. Can't beat the price for what you get. If I had the room I would have gone for 24 wide but no space. Only downfall is they come with aroll up door...no door opener......dooohhhh

I used American Steel Carports. They have some really nice garages also.

If I were to build a garage I would use them again in an instant.
