I am trying to hang vinyl siding in my garage. I am having trouble hanging the starter strip. I seem to get it either to high or to low. If it's to high, I can't get it to snap in. Thanks

The builders of my modular home used a galvanized starter strip that is almost 6" wide. Fortunately they supplied enough extra that I have been able to use it for my attached 28 x 38 garage. I have found this strip to be much easier to use than the vinyl starter strip available at the box stores. I'm not sure where you can obtain this, but if I have to install any vinyl siding in the future I will be trying to locate something similar.

When I hung my siding, I cut a short piece of starter strip, about a foot long and a 6" piece of siding to use as a template. Then I went around the building with this template and marked the lowest starter strip height, on the building at several locations, that would let the siding snap in. Then with a rotary laser level, marked a level line around the building. Finally, measured down to the starter strip marks and found the highest one, which was used to establish a level starter strip line around the building.

I looked for a photo that showed the lines but couldn't find one.

Good luck with your install.
