I need to get a new vise for the garage and i was looking at the ridged f45, although I would like to have one of the Wilton’s if I could hide the crazy cost from my wife 😒. Does anyone have an idea if the f45 on Home Depot site is German made or a downgraded knock off.?

It's definitely European, and most likely still German-made. Mine says "Germany" on the side in very light lettering.

For $250, I would post a wanted ad in GJ and find a member close by to sell you a vise you really want...
If you really want brand new, I would steer you toward the Yost for a lot less money.

I’d sell you a bullet for less than that or an even better deal would be a vintage USA vise like Reed or Starrett or any one of a number of heavier, better built and classic looking vises made back in the day of American dominance of industrial manufacturing.

Don’t worry about buying a “used” vise. Educate yourself by reading on GJ. There are plenty of classic vises that will serve you well for the rest of your life.

Please post your location.
