Pop was having an outbuilding torn down on a piece of property. I remembered that 30 years ago I used to play in that dilapidated building and there was a ton of stuff in there.

I took a quick walk through and grabbed two items. I forgot to ask the contractors how many tons of metal they took out of there (I am guessing a couple anyway).

It's been a couple of years, but I finally got around to disassembling, powerwashing, coating, oiling and reassembling.

The cutter works like butter, tighter than a new one, I'd imagine.

The vise leadscrew came out hard, but ok and works smooth and tight now. The movable jaw needed the love and persuasion only port-a-power could provide and it's still a little tight for my taste. I am not sure what's going on there, because it seemed to clean up pretty well.

Another old school vise mfg to add to the list. !!

Edit: I think Vanderman was mentioned before, probably in one of the vise threads.

I`ve noticed that those older vises like yours are much tighter. It looks like its 80-100 yrs old to me. I have an OLD one it has zero play in it.

That's an interesting statement. It might make sense given that this vise has nothing visibly wrong with it. It's perfectly functional and someone like Bluto or some career steamfitter from the early 20th century wouldn't even notice that it's tight.

Perhaps it was just Made that way in the USA???

Is it possible that I'm trying to find a problem with something that has no problem?

The cutter is a Rigid, but what make is the vise? Looks like its made for iron pipe work, the back is for bending? Never seen one like it.

Correct, the cutter says Ridgid no 1 & 2. Up to 2"

Vise says Vanderman MFG.
Willamantic, CT
It's a model no 1.
Opens > 10"
Jaw width is ~ 5"
weight: A LOT (well north of 100lbs)

Other than that, who knows?
