Vise Disassembly

I just picked up a "C.Parker Co." vise from a garage sale (I'm assuming that's Charles Parker), and I want to disassemble it to clean it properly. I've got most of it apart, but I don't know how to remove the female piece that the male threaded rod screws into to generate the clamping force (sorry, I don't know what any of these pieces are called).

The female piece easily wiggles back and forth about a quarter of an inch, but I can't get it to do anything more than that, and I'm not sure how to get it out. There's a pin that may be keeping it from sliding out of a channel that it's in, but I wasn't able to either unscrew it or knock it out using a moderate amount of force, and I don't want to wail on anything until I'm fairly certain it is intended to move the way I'm trying to force it.

One one side of the jaws it gives the company and where it was made, and on the other side it says "TROJAN 725" which I'm assuming is the model.

Does anyone know where I can look for an exploded view drawing or something like that? I thought I remembered reading a thread that had that kind of information in it, but I haven't had any luck searching either on this forum of the web in general. I did see that several members have similar Charles Parker vises so hopefully someone will share their wisdom.

Thanks

I was starting to get excited with all of the "female piece that the male threaded rod screws ", The "female piece easily wiggles back and forth" and the "TROJAN 725" until I remembered that this thread was about a vise....

:spit:

I realized I was talking about male and female pieces, but I genuinely hadn't realized just how much in my post could be read a very different way from how I meant it . . .

At least his handle wasn't "woodie".....

To get back to the problem at hand, try looking for a roll pin or a set screw that is retaining the rack. You might need to remove a cover plate on the bottom of the vise for it to be visible.

The pin that keeps the nut from sliding out can be tapped out by flipping the vise upside down and hitting it with a drift punch or a drive pin punch.
At least thats how I got mine out.

If it happens to be a swivel base you'll have to remove the swivel portion in order to access the pin.

Old Salvage is the man. Once I had the confidence to beat on it like it owed me money, it popped right out.

I'm pretty sure it was a swivel base, but the swivel portion is gone. :( Unfortunately, I don't think I have very good odds of finding a replacement.

Here's a picture of the vise:

Sorry for the bad photo quality, but at least I've got the photobucket thing figured out. I'll see if I can get a couple pictures with my camera instead of my cellphone.
