I have a little 4 inch vise on top of mine. Love it there.
I took a piece of 6in wide 1/4in thick aluminum.
Used an endmill and drilled about 50 blind holes and glued
1/4inch or so round neodynium magnets on the bottom, then bolted
the vise to aluminum using countersunk bolts.
So i could move it from my tool box to metal work benches etc.
The small magnets are decent, but not strong enough from what i had hoped.
Originally was going to use the 3/4 inch round from PA but they stopped selling them.
Gonna have to order some online and redo it.

I found it very handy in the past. Not so much now that space is more limited and i have to stack boxes higher. Just be sure you add a plate under it. Best is to bolt the plate to the box. I understand not everyone wants to drill holes in the top of their box, but I don't know of any good way other than that.

Not bad, but depending on what you want to do, 3-1/2" might be small. IF you're thinking of a permanent install, as Seber said, make sure to use a plate under the vise on the inside of the box.

That's what I did with mine.
I recommend you get something more substantial then the vise you attached. Something forged, or at least 50lb+.
A vise is one of the most valuable tools in the garage; and generally the bigger it is the more useful it is.

For me i dont need anything more substantial. Its a small vise. I use it to hold stuff like: threaded rod to cut with hacksaw, wires to solder, small pipe fittings, anything threaded to run a die/thread restore down, pieces of anything that needs to be drilled, painted, scribed filed, deburred, etc. Im not beating on it with a 20lb sledge.
For me anyways, its a vise on a 26" tool box. For me 3-4 inch is perfect. My use case is industrial, pushed all over the plant, behind machines, in between machines, in tight places, forklifted to different buildings. Its NOT a vise to replace the 8inch, bolted to a 1500lb+ workbench in the shop, that i will beat on **** with a 20lb sledge.
Guess it all depends on OP use case. Which he didnt state. Mines only held by neodiddilyium magnets. And works great.

I have a Mastercraft vise on my box, it looks almost identical to yours. A small vise like this is perfect for holding small pieces while working at your toolbox. If I want to smash the hell out of something I’ll put it in the bench vise....
