I ordered me a new vise for my drill press from msc. it has 2 axis and seems to be very accurate. I think its a little over priced as I paid almost as much for it as my drill press at 479.00 just for the vise :scared: . I looked at a bunch for 20 bucks and 40 bucks but they looked to cheap made so I decided on this one. I wanted something that I could put a round rod in and drill a hole with precision. something that I needed for a long time. anyway here it is

Palmgren has been putting out quality but fairly costly machine vises for many decades.
Palmgren is based in or near Chicago, and for those in the area, they do sell seconds, returns at discounted prices. You got a great looking vise though!

Your vise looks really nice! So nice in fact your drill press is going to have to have treatments for its inadequacy :) The 2 axis is a little over kill for a drill press vice though. Are you going to bolt it down? I was looking for a good vise for mine but I wanted a cam lock and a little larger model. I picked up a wilton cam lock ( not sure that they are still made in the usa like yours is) Seems nice enough @ $130.00 I'm not going to bolt mine down as it limits it too much for what I use it for ( holding things too small to hold by hand). Yeah I know I shouldn't hold stuff and drill it but I have been for over 20 years and now the smaller stuff is safer:)

Wow, KAt, that is a nice piece of equipment. I was at a pawnshop a few months ago and was rummaging through their stockpile of unsorted tool and came across a vise like yours (well, similar, at least - I think it was a 2-axis) and got excited until I saw the dreaded "CHINA" cast into it. I kept walking...

thanks guys. I don't think that I will bolt mine down but just use a clamp on it to hold it down cause like william I have to move mine around alot. yeah the two axis maybe over kill but I do like playing with it. I have a craftsman drill press with a laser on it which I had doubts about but after fine tuning it is very accurate.

You know I can understand not buying something new made in China, But if it's used they already got the cheese for that one, no? On the other hand I guess it may deter you from buying one new made in the good old USA.

Maybe it's a pride issue, but I just don't want a vise that says "CHINA" on it. It'll bother me every time I see it.
