Vise for making knives

Ok, so I have been saving up for the Yost 750-DI because I have seen other guys use it in their shop...it obviously has that swivel action on the head that people love. It is $180 plus tax on amazon, so I budgeted out $200.

Well, cut scene to yesterday when I found a guy selling a Wilton 6 1/2 inch on Facebook marketplace for $350. I lowballed him at $200 to maybe meet half way and he totally bit! I decided that regardless of the swiveling head I could not pass this up.

The question is this: Is it still worth saving up again just for the swiveling head of the 750-DI? I know that some people have said it is clutch when filing down your blanks....and I guess you can''t have too many vises!

Here is a pic of the Wilton I got Super excited about it...it seems like it was barely used. The guy said he had bought it brand new 6 months ago.

You do not need a rotating head to make knives. Ive made many knives without one. I clamp right in the soft jaws for finishing the profiles, and clamp on this homemade hold down (A harbor freight hold down bolted to angle iron and clamped in the vise) for sanding. I'll try to post up my way old swivel jaw prentiss with my hold down.



I do however like my knife making vise on a hitch type mount, allowing me more access to the piece.
