I was browsing the clearance area at Lowes this past weekend and found a set of vise-grips for $8.99. Original price was $29.99... I couldn't resist... they found their way into my cart....

Even if they're made in China, $8.99 for a 3-pack is still a great deal. That's cheaper and better quality than the HF ones.

I'd have to cut all that "comfort grip" garbage off of the handles though.

That's a great deal, I would have picked it up myself. Wish I would run into a deal like that. Usually when I go into the store and they clearence something it's like $1 off.

The grips pull off, mine are long gone

What's the deal with "comfort grips" anyways? Maybe it's because I grew up on Peterson Vice Grips (made in America), but the normal ones always felt perfectly fine to me.

I wouldn't pay $29.99 for that set, but for $8.99 ($3 a piece) I'd say that's not too bad. I'd rather go with this set though, its a dollar more but the warranty exchange process should be easier when they break :)

I'll probably pick that set up tomorrow if my Lowe's does not have the Vise Grip set. The comfort grip **** on the Kobalts does not slip off though. It has to be cut off in little pieces.

Fwiw, these were $5.** at my Lowe's. I hate buying once made in the US tools that are now Chinese but for under $6 I couldn't resist.

Oddly they still carry the two-piece set at $20.
