Hey guys-anyone know anything about this vise? It is for sale locally at a reasonable price, and is described as unmarked. The bulbous lead screw tells me it is old, but other than that, it is a mystery to me. Any info would be appreciated!

It's a coach-maker's style vise. Not sure on brand, likely not a Prentiss if it really has no markings on it as seller states. Also the "indented" area on side ofthe main slide casting is not indicative of Prentiss. I do agree that it is old though.

Thanks for the info, I think I'll go check it out.

Examine the area where the stationary base flares up into the jaw. The photo isn't clear enough, but could be a weld there. These days, if a vise is too cheap, sometimes there's a reason.

You are right, too good to be true. I went to check it out and it is very crudely welded back together on the stationary jaw with channel/angle iron. There is more new material than original on the stationary jaw.

Thank you all for the replies.
