Vise identification...first post

Got this vise from a garage sale, I'm trying to identify it. Obviously it is a Hollands, Erie PA. The number looks like 100 to me but I can not find ANY info about it online. I'm looking to sell it because I already have one of a similar size.

Can anybody help with this?

Holland is good old USA manufacture. Shouldn't have any trouble selling that one. List it by jaw width, opens to and weight.

I saw that image on another post on here. I just don’t see the identifying “100” mark on any of the ones listed under stationary bottom. I’m just wondering if I stumbled onto something valuable.

How wide are the jaws? That could be a good clue on what the number is. Are you sure it’s 100? Might the last number be obscured/damaged? Could it be a 3 or 8?

The jaws are 4 inches wide.

A #25 Holland is a nice user vise, but won't do a lot for the retirement account.

Hollands are great vises. That one is missing the pipe jaws.

Of all them listed here, maybe it’s the 103 model. But why would the logo be different?

Manufacturers change logos over time. Each mold can only make so many vises so when it’s time for a new mold, maybe the designer “modernizes” the lettering style or placement of letters. For a good example, look at Prentiss markings and how they changed over the years.

Ok, so best guess is that it's likely the 103 model then?

That would be my “best guess” as well.
That damaged numeral has rounded edges so perhaps it was once a three.

I'm leaning toward 103 too. Take a gentle probe (toothpick? brass awl?) and probe in that second "0". You may find it's a buildup of hardened grease obscuring the 3.

Good idea. I often use some solvent and one of those brass toothbrush shaped brushes to clean up such details.q

Got one of those for $15 at an estate sale last winter. Im pretty sure its one of those anyway. It’s been beat on and repaired a few times. I dropped it and broke another ear off. I was pretty thrilled about that. As beat up as it is its still smooth. The plan is to put it in mom’s barn so I got one over there when i have to fix something

I actually used a wire brush and cleaned it off...it's still not completely legible though.

umm... you may also find some of the casting sand fell out in production, and it's full of iron. If so, a little Dremel work would turn it into a proper 3

If he does that, he might as well tell everybody that it's "8 inches" too.

Can anyone provide some insight what these two vises are? labeled as 5" opening. Looks to have a spring interior.

What is intended use? Good? Bad?
