Jumping into the vise info thread with an addition for the spreadsheet. But first, an apology. I normally hang out in the repair 101 thread, but I just spent the last few days reading/browsing this thread, and there a more than a couple posts with newly aquired vises (in about the last 15 months) that I may have helped the buyer pay more on the bay...lol. So, a none-specific, and about 50% sincere, "Sorry brah"...lol to at least a couple of you....Alls fair in love and vises right?

Anyway, here's a Lakeside Deluxe 4 "script logo" that I think belongs to the same "series" as the 25/26/27. Jaws-4 1/8", Max Safe Open-4 1/2", Weighs 28lbs 12oz. My first restore Last year so no laughing please...lol

I know these are a Montgomery Wards brand (I have quite a few Lakeside tools), but I've never successfully found any catalog scans or ads for anything but the "Block logo" Lakeside vises. I also dont think I've seen anywhere posted here where the identify of who made them was clearly shown. Any help?
Thanks Matt, recorded it as a #4 model. Looks great.

Thanks for the heads up on the Parker too. It is tuff to be perfect and get everything right.

Indeed, and what you've accomplished in the spreadsheet is amazing! So no criticism intended.

Plus this is PARKER we are talking about...and there numbers ALWAYS make sense...lol

And btw, I believe maybe you aren't directly involved any longer? But thanks for the awesome jaws for my Craftsman 5162 restore!

^That Craftsman came out great!

Hollands 15-H. 5" jaws, no other specs.
Hollands 24 1/2 H. No specs, almost certainly 4-1/2" jaws.
Hollands B - clamp variant. 2" jaws per listing, no other specs. Pretty interesting, anyone have a catalog reference or had any idea this existed? It's getting some crazy early action on ePrey.

Oddball vise #3, this one is odd

At first I thought the big letters were Russian, but then understood that it is an < with M-H and another>. But there is that big dot on top of the hyphen, between the M-H. Anyway Pat Pending is definitely in English and Nikon below the M-H. The whole look and functionality is not very typical; is that some kind of a pipe bender hanging off the back of the stationary?

Kind of cool, would love to see it in person, but not anywhere near where I am.

This looks like serious homework for the professor (FJ)!

I believe that is a Massey-Harris vise.

I can add the vise as a Massy-Harris if confirmed. Hate to miss out recording a vise on the Spreadsheet. Seems pretty rare.

I can confirm that davethorik is correct and it's a Massey Harris Co. of Canada vise from the (1936-1940's) era.

The vise was designed for owners of their farm equipment. This vise is fairly rare and sells for a premium price at auctions.

The following link is from a Massey Harris collectors sight.
https://masseycollectors.com/Discussion/f2/t221/tp2/Cast-Iron-M-H-Memorabilia

The following link is the 1936 US patent.

Thanks ejot, it needs the lettering finished, but I'm quite pleased with it.

Speaking of "Massey" vises, though I believe this is a different company. I thought it would be a while before I found another to add to the spreadsheet, but here's another I just picked up this afternoon.

Massey Clincher No 34
Jaws-5"
MaxSafeOpen-6 5/8"
Weight-74lbs

Anyone know any history or date info, or have any ads for Massey Vise Co, Chicago? The dynamic support sure reminds me of an Athol...

Kevin, found this on a selling forum. I know a Record 112 is already on the spreadsheet, but this is a 112p. Not sure the difference, I remember something about the extra letter being for quick release in some cases; which this one does not appear to have. I also remember that certain different casts/metal might carry a letter. I am hoping the professor or one of the guys from across the pond can clarify.

The guy that refurbed it did a nice job and had this in the description...

"Antique RECORD, 6 inch BENCH VICE with small 2 1/4” x 2 1/4” Anvil on back. Circa 1920 - 30? Disassembled, cleaned, painted, greased, reassembled and ready to work for another 80 years. 6” Jaws. 8” open. 28” long open. 21 1/2” long closed. 9” wide at base. Weighs 72 lbs.".

Definitely gives all the stats you would want.

If you would like to add it as a 112p or not, I will leave that for you to decide.

Sounds great FMC, send me the link to the sales page and I will add it to the Spreadsheet. Good to hear from you.

In the early 1880's, Thomas C. Massey of Batavia, IL acquired the manufacturing rights of the E & K patent vise of England. In 1885, T. C. Massey took his business from Batavia to Chicago, where it remained until his company was disolved on 3/24/1911. It was around 1899, when the machinist "Clincher" model vise was introduced.

In 1914, George Morgan incorporated the defunk Massey Vise Co. and started to produce the vises again. Around 1920, George Morgan started the Morgan Vise Co. and transitioned some of the Massey vises into his new company, including the machinist "Clincher" vises. The Morgan family remained the owners of the Morgan Vise Co. until selling to a new owner in Aurora, IL around 1968.

The following catalog scan is from 1914 and shows both the swivel and stationary vises having the same model numbers...sorry KMScott.

This is a rarely seen Prentiss vise no.2, it has 3-1/2” jaws, opens 4-3/4” and weighs in at 28lbs. The vise is in beautiful condition and has been well cared for over the years. The grafitti script is a favorite of mine you can see the screw head impressions where they repaired the mold in the no. 2 area.

I see there is only 1 entry on the spreadsheet for Maple Leaf vises, and little to no info (I probably added it years ago). Here are 2 that can be added and these have model numbers showing as well as a bit of additional info.

Maple Leaf Vise, model 30 vise with 3 inch wide jaws. Made in Canada. Jaw inserts are in excellent condition. Vise is just over 10 inches long when closed and it weighs 11 lbs.

Vintage maple leaf brand bench vice Made in Canada, model 40 with 4 inch jaws

Well, $356 is a pretty respectable price for that little guy! The only ad I could find is from a 1936 Hollands catalog.

Hollands Keystone model BC clamp-on vise.

jaw width.......2"
jaw opening...2-1/4"
weight.............7 lbs.

Yeah, it definitely had some attention!

And thanks for the info on Massey. I wonder if the Morgan's were stamped differently, or if they continued to make a "Massey Clincher" with no obvious Morgan markings? Otherwise I'm assuming mine dates to the 1899 to 1911 period? I knew it was old, but it might just be the oldest I have!

Hi. I have a line on a Stahl vise but I have never heard of them. Likely due to the fact that it is German-made. The sticker on it also says Wabeco 1885. Any of you guys know anything about it. As a collector, it is definitely worth considering if it is any good. Thanks.

I had not heard of Wabeco before last week when I cam across this one that was for sale

**** Not sure the link is correct, it should be post # 2029 on the previous page to this one.

Stahl could be the model or series, as is Teco on the one I saw. All I can say is if the price is decent and you need a vise, being that it is German made, you should have a good solid vise. As for collector value, definite unique value, but doubt it has any additional $$$ value, beyond that of a good vise.

MattGavriloff...While the Massey Vise Co. ended in 1911 under the reign of T.C. Massey, it was revived in 1914 under the ownership of George Morgan, who produced the same Massey vises until the very early 1920's. The Morgan Vise Co. was incorporated and started producing vises in 1920.

So, your vise could be as late as 1921 or so. A century old vise is a very old vise indeed.

And Kevin, not to question those with way more vises and experience than I, but I think your numbers on the Parker 69 and 69F, may be a little mixed up?

This is my recently acquired No. 69,
Jaws exactly 5 1/2",
Max Safe Open with the slide at the back of the body 9.5" (And the screw still has almost an inch left through the nut at that point)
Body-55lbs
Slide-54lbs
Screw-13lbs
=122lbs

I believe all the catalog scans I've seen show it at either 110, or 125, depending on age, so my 122, and your 124 for the 69F (if missplaced and actually for the 69) make sense.

I think you may have the weights of them reversed as the 69F with 6" jaws makes more sense at 140? My taller jawed 5X with 6 1/4" jaws weighs 149, so those numbers make more sense to me. Just thought I'd mention it. But my No 69's jaws and opening don't quite match your numbers either. Maybe just manufacturing differences? Seems a bit too big a variance though to me.
Hi Matt, the 69F is a great vise but is a bit of a lightweight for a 6". I had one and the old gal was 124 lbs, weighed on two separate scales.

I believe those screws fasten the model ledger plate to the wood patterns. I forgot what foundrymen call 'em.

Merrill Brothers #6 with 6" jaws. Not quite sure about the correct designation for jaw opening: With the screw just inside, opening is 7". With the slide just inside, opening is 9". I could not unbolt it to weigh. It's still in service in a steel-mill's machine shop, and probably in its original location since new.

"Stahl" simply means "steel" in German. Maybe just saying it's made of steel rather than cast iron, and not the brand.

As are many of the English brands, and as well many of the Canadian brands, they are all clones of the classic Record vise. I have to though, these Marples are both rare and absolute beauties

Custom made Brass or Bronze swivel base vise very similar to the Prentiss 2" baby from the swivel up. Awesome job and deserves to be on the spreadsheet.

2" jaws that open to 2" and weights 11lbs.

Here is another Odin Universal Vise, one is already on the spreadsheet but felt this one should be shared too and I'll add it as a second link.

3-1/2" jaws that I bet were made interchangeable since the jaw block can be popped out quickly.
