You are right FMC, Fierljeppen is a great asset to this thread. I have one of these Yost's swivelers in line for restoration and just learned a great history lesson on it. These vises are big and heavy and not on the spreadsheet yet.

The only model designation on this exceptionally rare Yost swivel jaw double rotator was 4 1/2N also. I picked this up last year but unfortunately it needed quite a bit of work and replacement parts so it went to a collector in Northern California who had the capability to restore it to its former glory. The specs for it would have been the same as the other non swivel jaw model you posted a few back.57424f6add673bd36ee2eaa0c064b92d.jpgb7b4ec4fdf804f6719fe1158c3d8b69b.jpg

KMS, I have a Lewis that has the very same pipe jaws.---Prentiss didn't change much when they bought the Lewis patents.

This one didn't come with pipe jaws but I got lucky and grabbed a set off eBay.---This is the Lewis before jaws were installed.

Is that Prentiss yours, and if so how do you plan to fix the screw?

No it is'nt mine. I own a #82 and it has the dynamic support broke and will help the guy and sell him my spindle. The 82 has the same threads 7/8:3-1/2 square but it is a inch shorter. I own the Yost double swivler though.

I have a Wilton 63L with 2 1/2” jaws and it opens 2 1/4”. It looks like it should have a swivel base, which I don’t have.

FMC1959, KMScott...Thanks for the kind words, but the accolades are unnecessary. I really enjoy this thread and will try not to wear out my welcome.

Fred Knox...Your Wilton vise is actually a Super Junior No. SBV-65. They were first offered in 1998 and I believe they are still available today. You may be able to still get your missing swivel base.

Thanks for the scan! Very odd that there would be such a weigh difference. Will re-weigh mine to make sure I got it right.

Yost 4-500 G. 4-1/2" jaws that opens to 5" safely and weights 90lbs.

Thanks Chris. Guessing on the model number, I can see numbers that look like casting numbers. I will strip it soon and see what is under all this paint. Big vise.

Here's some documentation for your Yost model no. G double-swivel vise, succeeding the 1902 Williamson patent vise.

Please update the thread with photos, after the restoration!

Yes me too, it is disassembled and stripped and in line for restoration. I might keep this one.

If you should decide it needs a new home please let me know. I have a work bench that is screaming for that vise.

What a beauty Kevin,
Am I right in thinking that the single lever locks both the horizontal and vertical swivel with a cam?
Would love to see the mechanism.

The "mechanism" that locks the swivel base and rotation of the Yost rotator vises is just a large through bolt to which the lever is threaded onto.

Here are some pics of a 4 1/2" Yost swivel jaw rotator I acquired last year. You can see that the "barrel" that slips over the swivel base and accepts the static jaw (nothing is really "static on this vise") is partially cut down the middle and it's essentially just pinched when that bolt is tightened.

This very rare vise was broken in several ways including that lever having been broken off and missing, the screw snapped and brazed back together and an unfortunate crack in a critical location. For those reasons I let it go to a great guy up in NorCal who collects these and had replacement parts waiting. a10f2683dbc3c64883d000292b80029d.jpg690207d45dfa88bccab3650f96d1d51c.jpg30f95df63881f7e72b57a9b01a504de6.jpgbfd3ee11765212941a75f75863cfe2c9.jpge997c923de3fb23c4332851cde4a9797.jpg

Thanks Chrisnazzy,
That is way less complicated than I guessed.
The split looks to be sawn after casting?
