Modern 756 Clamp-on. From the owner.

"Finally broke my vise drought with this awesome blue Modern M756 made in Milwaukee. 3in wide jaw 3in opening. Weight 11lb 10oz.
Modern was making this vise from around 1925-1938. Advertising said take the vise to the work. This vise was $4.40 in 1930 around $70 for adjusting inflation seems like a bargain to me"

Wilton C1. 4-1/2” jaws that opens to 6” and weights 70lbs. Has a throat depth of 4-3/4” and a pipe capacity of 1/8” to 3-1/2”. One of my restorations.

Not sure of it's exact weight, but it's considerably more than 100 lbs.
Maybe 150 or so?

On sale locally on Offerup for $200, but I was the only one who showed interest (??)

I was immediately impressed with those 6" jaws and it's beastly size

Stanley 400 picture framing vise. Cast iron, rotates 360 and can also tilt up to 90 degrees to allow the picture framer to install nails in the corners after gluing it up. Stands 5.5 inches high and can handle frames up to 4 inches wide. The cast iron handles give you the momentum to spin the jaws in/out faster. Newer versions have large, solid metal cylinders for the same reason. It has 5 mounting holes to secure it to a bench and thumb screws to lock rotation and tilting. Made in the USA.

Big Vulcan No. 4 Chain Vise. 1/2 to 8 inch diameter work. Made by J.H. Williams & Co from Brooklyn - Buffalo USA. Patent dates are 1891, 1903, and 1904. British patent dates listed are 1903 and 1904. The base is 3/4 inch thick ! Mounting holes are 5/8 inch diameter. Included chain is 3 feet long. Total weight about 30 lbs. J.H. Williams & Co was ultimately bought by Snap-On. Works perfectly again !

Exposed screw vise from Smart Mfg in Brockville, Ontario, Canada. 7 - 11. Jaws are 3 inches wide plus lower built in pipe jaws. Opens 3-3/4 inches. Swivels about 120 degrees. Anvil area is about 1-3/4 inches, square. Nice forming horn on the back. Jaw inserts are screwed on. Owned by my father. At least 50 yrs old.

Record Imp No 80. Made in England. Has been in the Record catalogs since 1935. Clamp-on with additional mounting holes to screw it to the bench. Replaceable jaws, 2-1/4 inches wide, opens 2-1/2 inches weighs just over 4 lbs. Has a hardened circular anvil on the back along with a small horn. Has small V groove jaws for holding round stock under the main jaws. Also a round disc on the right side of the moving jaw to allow you to bend wire/rods.

KMS - thanks. Working on a Parker 372 swivel jaw and a big Parker 69X. 69X has really been beaten. Just found a braze across the whole front where the jaw insert sits. Didn't see that until I pulled the jaw insert off and cleaned up the grime. It also has a crack at the back of the slide. I got that welded. Beaten to death. The big meatball and handle must have been sitting in water. Going to use JB Weld to clean up the meatball and the BIG dents behind the fixed jaw. Making a new handle as well. They smashed the daylights out of the slide as well and I need a new front collar as well. About 130 lbs !

Had no idea there were any traditional English style vices with swivel jaws (now I see the one posted by @dutchgray) but just came across this catalog page with the specs for six models of cast iron quick release swivel jaw Parkinson's. Really cool!

There is only a few of those Parkinson swivel jaws known to exist, Fretters on here also owns one if memory serves. There is only 3 variants because the swivel base just bolts on, I don't own a swivel base, they are hard to find.

Parkinson Handy 3B vise with swivel. Just picked this up. Not refurbished yet. Catalogs show the 3A model with and without a swivel. This has the swivel. Jaws are 4-1/2 wide. Weight per catalog is 61 lbs. Opens 5-1/2 inches per catalog. The screw nose is rounded, not a cylinder so likely older. Made in England. Perhaps should ad line items for these model numbers without swivels as well to the spreadsheet.

Found this sad ******* of a Parker 130 oval slide vise last week. Real shame, smallest oval slide I have seen. Can't even imagine what someone was trying to do with this tiny vise to destroy it this bad, broke the static into 2 pieces and the dynamic into 3 or 4 pieces. Anybody need parts?
2-3/8" jaws, opens to 3", very light, I'm thinking 5 or 6 lbs. On edit, the catalog I linked below confirms 5 lbs.

That Carfinal #40 vise is made by the same folks who made the Carfinal speed vise series for drill presses. The #40 is also quick release like the drill presses from what I have read. You can see the oblong hole for the leadscrew in the moving jaw. So I suspect it is the same mechanism as the speed vise.

Been a vise lurker since 2019. Somehow got into refurbishing old tools, learning about company history and have migrated to vises. Live in Ontario, Canada. Started reading the Vises of Garage Journal from the beginning. Approaching the end of 2015. Completely read the Vise Info Thread and have used the Vise Spreadsheet several times analyzing vises I have bought. Here are some Canadian catalog pages for RAE vises as a start. Originally called RAE Tool and Engineering from Hamilton, Ontario and later changed to RAE Vise Corp. Vises were made in Hamilton (McCoy Foundry Co Ltd). Ultimately RAE vises were made in Orillia, Ontario (OTACO). I have refurbished several versions of them as well but here are the catalog/brochures I have collected.

Hi Dave, I just picked up a RAE No. 4 vise (4" jaws) that was in very rough shape, and I'm in the process of removing all the rust and getting ready for paint. It was so rusty I couldn't tell what the original paint color was.

Do you have any info on what colors these came in? I'm not going to be too picky, but was hoping to go with something in the ballpark of the original color.

Mine just says RAE on one side, and No. 4 on the other side. No specific mention of Hamilton, Orillia, Canada, etc. So I'm not too sure what vintage it even is.

I have a 1950 catalog page indicating that they had been around for 30 yrs making vises and say they are the "Oldest and Largest Vise Manufacturer in Canada". Nothing indicates their actual colour. Hard to tell what were repainted. This is not something I typically care about. Here are some colours of what I think were original. One looks like a greenish/blue slide was attached to a gold fixed portion. The orange coloured one actually has a McCoy Foundry label on the front.

Thanks for all that info! There were a couple very small swatches of paint I found under some rust that look similar to that more greenish color in your last picture, so maybe I'll go in that direction. But also makes me a little less OCD about it knowing they came in many different colors it seems.

@Dave600 do you have any info on how to date Rae vises? Mine has very few markings on it, just RAE and No 4. I've seen many that say Made in Canada or Hamilton or Orillia or other information on the opposite side, but mine doesn't have that.

So just curious if you've found any kind of pattern of Rae making vises during certain year ranges with or without the various different markings they've used?

HandyAndy - Sorry, I do not have the info you are looking for. The 1950 catalog said that they were the largest and oldest vise manufacturer in Canada and had been around for 30 yrs....1920ish. Company location was on Shaw St in Hamilton, Ontario and the company name was RAE Tool and Engineering Limited. McCoy Foundry in Hamilton was used. Not sure of their relationship. Name changed later to RAE Vise Corp which could be before/after they moved manufacturing to Orillia, Ontario as part of OTACO - Orillia, Tudhope-Anderson Company. OTACO appears to have sold the RAE Vise Corp to Harcox Holdings Ltd. of Orillia in 1972. Not sure if vise production continued. There are some RAE vises with an oval and a "D" in the casting (see photo). There are Crawford vises made in Woodstock, Ontario and Clark Machine Co vises from Thorold/Merritton, Ontario and some of those have the same double curve shape coming down from the fixed jaw tower to the "nose" supporting the rail beyond the tower. Were these made by RAE for them? See attached photo of the double curve and oval-D marking I am referring to....
