I just saw this on govt surplus website -
Hard to tell for sure but there appear to be some bullet style vises (old Wiltons perhaps) in the lot. Current bid is $150 for the whole shebang.

So if you're close to Montgomery, AL ---- you've been warned.

http://gsaauctions.gov

Sorry but the direct link to the vises won't work. If you're interested, use the GSA link and then go to "handtools and .....". Should be about the 5th entry down.

ONE LOT EST. TO CONSIST OF: 5 BENCH AND PIPE VISES. THIS PROPERTY MAY BE MISSING PARTS AND IT IS UNKNOWN OF ITS OPERATING CONDITION. NO MAINTENANCE RECORDS ARE AVAILABLE. REPAIRS MAY BE REQUIRED. YOU ARE ENCOURAGED TO INSPECT. (142081). 474A0340660137

It would be a tough choice between the vises, the fairchild porter or the mine hunters. I guess the vises would be the easiest to move.

Wow - how can you guys tell so much from the pics? I was happy I saw the base sitting separate. Do you have big monitors and enlarge the photo? My little laptop doesn't help much at higher mags.

Bunchofgrass: have you heard the expression "These guys are good"? it does apply to several of the members of the Vise Gang that have seen your thread and posted their opinions.

by the way notice the other crate in the picture is made of plastic and the one for the vises is 100 year old barn wood which might have some value too. also one thing to add that some of you may have already seen are the two swivel bases sitting next to the Yost vises that might be the ones for the Wiltons. they look a little bigger than a C1 so probably are C2's like was said already.

good luck to whoever ends up with the winning bid.
