vise question?

Hello vise junkies, got a question for ya. I just bought a Lista workbench, had a Wilton vise on it. Unfortunately I believe it's one of those Chinese Wilton. It's a columbian D6. The fit and finish ain't what I'd expect from an American model. But I didn't buy the bench to get the vise, it was bolted down. The thing is not opening up with turning the handle. I can search how to fix it. But it also needs new pads for the jaws. My question is where do I find parts, and are they gonna be cheap enough to make this project worthwhile? I have another vise, so that's not a problem. I really don't want to go find a real vise, as these will work for me. If I can fix it cheap enough. What do you think?

Sorry, no computer, only phone. No computer, no pics. Besides you seen one crappy, beat up vise, you've seen em all. I was just wondering where you can buy cheap vise parts. Parts for cheap vise. Or is it gonna be a case of thirty five bucks, to save a vise that's not worth thirty five. Then having to disassemble and fix the thing also. I don't really know exactly what's involved in getting the movable jaw to follow the screw out. But I'm sure it's a common enough problem. But I know for sure, those jaw pads have to be replaced. They don't mate properly, not even close.

Sorry about the picture problem. I'm trying to free up enough memory to put in the app that will let me post pictures.

I have a vice called Record S03, Made in England, but it's quite modern. It only screws out enough to release the pressure and then you just pull it out with you hand. That's the way it's designed to work.

ummm, no. If you want specific advice on here you have to be specific. All crappy beat up vises are not the same...at all...in regards to what you are asking

Wilton in the above style. I got mine for a few bucks at a yard sale, but it feels pretty damn cheap, and if it broke (which seems likely) I'd probably just toss it.

Yep that's the one. Like I said cheap Chinese Wilton. I'm pretty sure that parts are out there. The question is, are they cheap to buy. Where do you find them? The pads are normal wear parts. Aren't they? As to the problem of the jaw not opening unless pulled, well, how hard could that be to fix? See the problem with replacement is, I'll probly have to buy new. So I'd end up with the same **** only newer.

If the dynamic jaw isn't moving out while you turn the handle unless your pulling on it, it sounds like the threads are shot or something.

I'd pass on it, personally. Isn't worth fixing.

If the screw isn't drawing the dynamic jaw out, its probably missing a 98 cent C clip, (see the pics) any other damage I can't comment on without pics as I'm not psychic... psychotic maybe...

I would scrap it if it was brand new in the box. It is junk. Is that enough advice?
