Hi All,
I have two older vises that I'm going to restore. They work fine, but they're pretty beat up and can benefit from a ride in the degreaser at work followed by some bead blasting & some fresh paint.
Disassembly is straightforward, with one exception: the ring that holds the screw in....how does it come out so the screw can be removed?
This is a Dunlop 5244 (which I believe is a Sears brand from the late '50s). The ring appears to be pressed on:
This is a Columbian 43 and it was a friend's grandfathers. My friend is 60, so I suspect this might be old. The ring rides in a groove:
I surely don't want to break anything, and if it's wiser to end my disassembly here & leave the screws in, I could live with that.
So what's the trick to getting these rings out? Or do I leave well enough alone?
Thanks!
